5.0 out of 5 stars Back To Basics/Experimental Future May 11, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
So I'm an old-school Infected Mushroom fan, with my favorite albums being "Classical Mushroom" and "Converting Vegetarians". I've thought that much of IM's newer songs have been beginning to stray away from the intensely melodic yet unique symphonies that originally made the group popular. In recent albums, there are many more tracks with vocals. I suppose this is done as an attempt to gain more popularity from new fans, a younger, more mainstream type of demographic than the original IM core fan-base was.

Don't get me wrong, it's always good to experiment, try new things, and evolve as an artist. I just personally don't find the direction IM was going to be in one that I enjoy as much as their original material.

You can tell in "The Legend of the Black Shawarma" that they've realized this fact, and have attempted to appease fans, as you can easily see the difference in styles of tracks on the album. Some pure trance/psy music tracks, and others continue the up-beat energetic psy-trance vocal overlay that many fans have become alienated because of.

With this new album "Army of Mushrooms", I was pleasantly surprised. I won't go through a track-by-track break down, as I'm still listening/getting used to them, but I will give a general review of the album. Although there are a few tracks that continue on with vocals, they're done very well. There are quite a few amazing Psy-Trance tracks, and allot of new experimental sounds/beats. IM has begun experimenting with 'PsyStep' which would be considered Psychadelic-Dubstep. I found myself rocking out/really enjoying the experimental PsyStep tracks. There are also a few tracks that you can tell that took direct inspiration from "Skrillex" with dubstep/fast beat/crazy sounds.

I know many music aficionados will roll their eyes at this review, but I'm just a fan, and this is my opinion. Please take it as that, and nothing more. Hopefully it's helpful.

Pick this album up, you'll love it, it touches true to the roots of the melodic symphonies and weird sounding instruments that many core IM fans have grown to love, but it also mixes it up and tries many new things that work quite well.

Pick up the album!

(This is one of the few artists that I actually purchase music from, despite me being able to listen to it for free using GrooveShark, I put money towards artists I support. I suggest everyone else do the same)

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Psy May 10, 2012

One of the psychedelic trance scene's top groups blows away the dubstep scene in this incredible fusion. I recommend this album to anyone into the dark side of electronic dance music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant May 8, 2012
By Carlito

My initial thoughts are this is one fine example of psytrance/IDM with a nice hint of modern dubstep. Track 05 "The Rat" is one of the standout songs that has that classic Infected Mushrooms style albeit with an updated more electronic feel. For those who know Infected Mushrooms this isn't so much of a departure as it is a progression from their previous albums that has taken a few cues from the modern electro scene. 8.5/10

Fun music from a fun band. High energy techno at its best with a driving beat and intricately woven lyrics over interesting melodic themes.
