Book Description

August 1, 2003 Frontier Classics
James B. Fry (1827-1894) spent nearly his entire career on staff duty, retiring only in 1872 to devote himself to military writings, of which Army Sacrifices is one of the most important. Drawing on War Department records and participant recollections, Fry presented riveting vignettes of both pre- and post-Civil War engagements in the West, including the Fetterman Massacre, the battle of Beecher Island, and the death of Gen. Edward R. S. Canby in the Lava Beds.
