Varese Sarabande arguably turns out the best contemporary, right-off-the-soundtrack compilations around, this CD included. Although the tracks span quite a few years (eight films worth), the sound is even and quite good (due, of course, to excellent re-recording technical processes). As usual, the CD Producer seems to have picked selections so as to minimize main-title-itis (thank you very much!). The listener gets to sample some themes and variations that lie after/before the opening/closing credits. Unfortunately, with this genre often there isn't a heck of a lot of new music after/before the opening/closing credits; and many film scores sound just like their predecessors (especially if that predecessor made big bucks). Repetition (and monotony) are always a few bytes away. Of course, it's darn hard to improve on orchestrations and arrangements when you're stuck with the "in-the-can" originals! Which is precisely the problem here (and with most off-the-track scores and compilations). Bottom line: if you are a hard-core case (like me), this CD definitely belongs in your collection; but if you've only browsing, just munch by (and don't buy).

4.0 out of 5 stars famous Arnold movie theme songs soundtrack, August 10, 2009

A lot of great Arnold theme songs here for a decent price- some stand out ones are the songs / themes from Terminator 2, Running Man, Total Recall. I also personally like the Raw Deal ones, but they are borderline cheesy action songs (but if you're buying this, well... you probably already know that ;)

Not a fan of the comedy movie theme songs like from Kindergarten Cop but I did enjoy most of the songs on this soundtrack.

Take care, God bless.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful catch all release, October 21, 2008
This review is from: Arnold: Great Music From The Films Of Arnold Schwarzenegger (Audio CD)
Yeah OK the entire concept of this release is a bit weird. I mean, Arnie films aren't known for their great soundtracks except for some of the earlier sword and sorcery stuff. But this is probably a good release for movie music buffs to grab as it does encapsulate a bunch of niftier slices of sound from a whole range of his films.

Highlights here are of course the orchestral stuff that featured mostly in his early movies where he was `hearing the lamentations of the women' but that's not to take away from the stirring nature of many of these tracks. And it should be noted that some of it has stood the test of time - when they needed some stirring music for the trailer to Gladiator they didn't use anything from it's own soundtrack, instead they used Anvil Of Crom from Conan the Barbarian. So whether it's cool to have a soft spot for the films is irrelevant, even Hollywood has to admit some of the tunes were good.

Other stuff here isn't so useful, a lot of synthesiser music which might of been forgivable in the 80's but it's dated pretty badly, stuff from movies like Raw Deal and Total Recall. But the opening section to Terminator 2: Judgement Day is pretty cool even after all these years. Hearing it always evokes images of that metallic skull wreathed in flames that started that film.

So pick it up if this sounds like your bag. I got mine disgustingly cheap and I certainly wouldn't recommend paying too much for it. Oh and if you can't be bothered paying P&P then just download tracks 1; 4; 5; 13; 17 and 18.
