5.0 out of 5 stars An essential Schoenberg book, August 9, 2008
This review is from: Arnold Schoenberg's Vienna (Paperback)
The Richard Gerstl affair with Schoenberg's wife is covered in "Arnold Schoenberg's Vienna" by Jane Kallir. Gerstl's weird self-portraits are pictured as well.He did one of the best paintings of Schoenberg, rivalled only by Egon Schiele, and it is the frontispiece of the book.
Many reproductions of other artists, as well as Schoenberg's own works, are included. This book gives you a good visual counterpoint if you are trying to piece together what their epoch was like, and there's lots of inside info. I don't know why some of the sellers are asking around $100; perhaps this is getting scarce. I'd advise getting a copy NOW.
