5.0 out of 5 stars Aroma AFD-615 Dehydrator a "best buy"
Originally bought the Aroma Dehydrator to handle an over-abundance of garden peppers, but have used it for apples, herbs, and other garden products now as well. Has operated almost non-stop this fall, and worked flawlessly. Is easy to keep clean, quiet, does a nice job. A larger dehydrator might be nice, but for the money, I'll call this a "best buy."

1.0 out of 5 stars No heat here
The dehydrator I have been using for a long time, finally gave out. I bought this as a replacement - first the directions were sparse - didn't really tell me how to use all the parts - second, what used to take me 8 to 10 hours took me 18 and could have gone longer - there wasn't enough heat to dry the jerky - even the slices of pepperoni I put on the top tray, so I can...

I received one of these as a gift last year. I have made lots of beef jerky on it, with great success. However, the bottom tray got dropped and it shattered. I have contacted the company and apparently there's a shortage of bottom trays. I'm now on a waiting list for a new lower tray. I'll return here and report when this is concluded.

Will be replacing this soon.

The trays are made of #7 plastic if I knew I would not purchase this. I am an organic vegan converting to raw and it makes no sense to eat food with BPA leeched into it =(. I am going to save up for an excalibur realizing this doesn't really hold that much.

1.0 out of 5 stars never even got to use it!, January 6, 2005
This review is from: Aroma AFD-615 5-Tier Rotating Food Dehydrator (Kitchen)
i received this dehydrator for christmas and was very excited to open it up and use it.
bought everything i needed to make beef jerky and was ready to begin when to my dismay, i saw the bottom tray that rotates broken.

i contacted amazon and went through a smooth exchange process.
2 days later i have my other dehydrator. WOW Amazon!

i open my box fired up to make my beef jerky when low and behold
the bottom tray is again broken!

amazon says they cant exchange it again, but i guess thats for the better.
as they say, you get what you pay for!

guess i'll have to keep buying my jerky. :-(

5.0 out of 5 stars nothing missing, nothing broken, works perfectly, making jerky right now!, March 6, 2010

I was hesitant to buy reading what some of the past reviewers had written but I feel like I did well here. The thing was well packed from the factory and amazon threw it in another box for good measure. That is why I like amazon they don't mind adding a box if it will prevent a return. smart business.

The dehydrator itself is a very simple and easy to use device, stack food you want to dry on the trays, hit the switch and watch it spin for 30 minutes in a hypnotic trance. (that last part is optional). It gets up to operating temp quickly and is relatively quiet. It has a blower and moving plastic parts people- it's not silent. It was really squeaky at first but after running for a few hours it got much much quieter, can't hear it running in the next room. The way people had said the trays were broken etc I expected part of the thing to be glass but all the parts are plastic. It does not strike me as an extremely high quality appliance, however it also looks like it would be 150 dollars at the store, not 35. I think it's top notch for the money spent.

I am a jerky nut, I love the stuff. This cannot be beat for the price, if it lasts a year and continues to make me jerky it will have more than paid for itself in that time.

Now I just need that jerky gun I saw!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't buy again, September 27, 2006
I had never owned a food dehydrator before and used this one for the first time yesterday. It took me 18-19 hours to dry thin slices of apple. The dehydrator book I have says 6-8 hours. Plus, it didn't get hot. It got warm but not hot and after I turned it off and turned it back on the tray will not rotate and there is no troubleshoot in the directions. Would suggest trying another food dehydrator for your choice :-(

5.0 out of 5 stars Great family hobby, September 4, 2007
This review is from: Aroma AFD-615 5-Tier Rotating Food Dehydrator (Kitchen)
We only bought this dehydrator to desiccate plant samples for my 13-year-old's science project, but after the science fair was over, we discovered a wonderful way to make the family's snacks by drying fruit, vegetables and beef (as jerky). It is quiet and efficient. The stack trays hold enough food to make it worth your while to run the machine. It sets up easily, and the stack trays are dishwasher safe. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much you can do with this product.

I read the reviews on this product before purchasing and was a little skeptical noting the squeeking and the 'easily breakable' trays. I haven't broken a tray yet, just be gentle with them. As for the squeek, try a little Pam on the wheels under the bottom tray and the squeeks are gone! The only thing I would consider differently in the future is purchasing a unit with a built in timer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just as essential as our Foodsaver..., June 1, 2007
This review is from: Aroma AFD-615 5-Tier Rotating Food Dehydrator (Kitchen)
I have used this dehydrator for many different foodstuffs: from apples, pears, bananas to herbs to morel mushrooms and many things in between. Dries them quickly without molding. I like that I could purchase more trays to build a larger tower. The one drawback is that the trays are made of brittle plastic and can chip/break quite easily.
