5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Hot Plate
I've owned this hot plate for a little over two months now and have pretty much used it daily to make a single serving of black refried beans. It boils the little-over half-a-cup of water in a little under seven minutes and the beans turn out great. One caution is that, except for the legs, the whole device tends to get hot when using it - not just the burner. Overall I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow to heat up, not worth the $20
I'm not sure how the other two reviewers gave this 5-stars - maybe I got a bad one. Out of the box it takes forever to boil water, if it can even get to that point. I live in a place with only a kitchenette, no oven or stove, so I bought this for $20, a Chefmate electric skillet for $20, and an Oster toaster oven for $50 in order to cook food at home. Yes, I went...

One caution is that, except for the legs, the whole device tends to get hot when using it - not just the burner. Overall I consider this a good hot plate and highly recommend it.

My new cottage kitchen needed this single burner portable range. I have used it every day and it is perfect to prepare single meals. Yes it gets hot but so did my regular range. Just don't touch it. This unit gives a variety of settings and I find the low setting perfect for cooking a bump above simmer. It receives my 5 star okydoke.

Yes, I went cheap, but I needed to figure out what worked best before dropping much $$.

The skillet and toaster oven are amazing. I can cook up onions, tomatoes, meat, etc. in the electric skillet in a flash - way before the water even starts to boil on this hot plate. I've tried giving it a head start by bringing the water to a boil in an electric kettle, but as soon as I transfer the water to a pot on the hot plate and add the pasta, it can't even reach a simmer, so I end up with soggy pasta that's been sitting in warm water. I'm beyond the 30-day return period, so I'm stuck with it but hoping I can find a better option with either a commercial-grade hot plate or an induction burner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Average hot plate..., April 10, 2011

I have owned this hotplate which I got at Target a few years ago. It is ok, but the temperature button does not show how hot things are getting so you don't know or have to guess. I keep it on high or the knob turned all the way to the right. I dropped it on the floor and one of the small stands broke, so I just put napkin to keep it standing up. No issues other then me feeling it didn't get hot enough and I could not see the temperature. I don't know the heat capacity for these hotplates, but it did cook everything I wanted and I cooked all alot of different dishes.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY ON THIS ITEM, December 19, 2011

This review is from: Aroma AHP-303SB Single Hot Plate, Silver and Black (Kitchen)
I GOT THIS ITEM [AROMA HOT PLATE] FROM AMAZON IN AUGUST,2011 AND IT QUIT WORKING IN DECEMBER, 2011 I PLUGGED IT IN AND THE PILOT LIGHT DOESN'T EVEN COME ON AND IT DOES NOT HEAT UP--LIKE IT WASN'T EVEN PLUGGED IN--A PIECE OF JUNK. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING WITH THIS BRAND NAME AGAIN. IT COST ABOUT $24.00. I MUST HAVE GOTTEN A BAD ONE. I JUST SAW THIS ITEM ON SALE THRU AMAZON FOR $15.90--LIKE I SAID BEFORE 'DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY' BUYING THIS. IT WOULD GET NO STARS IF THAT WERE POSSIBLE. I CANNOT SEND IT BACK OR I WOULD BECAUSE I GOT IT ON AUGUST, SO IT GOES IN THE TRASH.

Convenient, efficient and not pricey!
The brand is one of my favors. Also, this product is especially recommended for those persons who live in dorm.

I was using this hotplate for a theatre show, putting it into a stove and allowing the actors to cook real food while performing. The plate did great, getting and keeping the area good and hot. Definitely something I would use again.

I looked at sever of these single burners before I selected this one. I am overseas and this works just great. I wanted to cook some brown rice & some pasta so I knew this would be great. I love and I am sure you will too. I don't have problems with it heating up or staying on. I always pull the plug when I am done anyway so no need to be concerned about it not shutting off. Just remember to plug back in when you want to heat up water again. :) Great burner you will love it.
