1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly built
The unit lasted 5 months and one burner quit altogether. After countless attempts I was finally able to reach Aroma, who agreed to take it back and fix it (at my shipping cost) and return it...in 4 weeks. Hardly worth the time and expense. I'd look for a different brand next time

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, Reliable and Goes the distance, October 10, 2009
This review is from: Aroma AHP-312 Double Burner Hot Plate
Purchased this last September when we lost the gas in our NYC apartment building (the whole building) due to leak and need for complete retrofitting. Gas out for almost 13 months, only 1/3rd of building now has gas as of Oct 10.

Used it daily for over a year--primarily the larger burner. Although it takes awhile to heat to reach boiling point, my only real "complaint," its three temps (High, medium, low) and warm make it very versatile for whatever you are cooking.

Is it the same as cooking on an electric or gas stove? No. But when we finally got the gas back this week, I opted to not have it turned on--I was that pleased with this last year's performance. This works for my sauteeing, steaming and soup-making. (This unit, along with a microwave, Foreman grill and an old Delonghi oven roaster take care of all I need in terms of cooking. We don't really do a lot of baking and we're not cooking big turkeys--if we were, I'd get an electric roaster.)

The old, old, old stove in this apartment never really worked properly and the oven was unusable. So, now, with this unit, and the other pieces, I can cook what we need. Without the minimum $30 a month we were paying to Con Ed (Base charge + actual usage), which we always questioned.

FYI: We would have bought two of these but this is an old NYC apartment and the way the electric wattage is set up, we couldn't use two at the same time anyway.

If you cook a lot at the same time, I'd suggest getting two of these (again, check that your electrical setup can support it.)

You don't seriously increase your KWH usage and you can really cut back on $ for gas.

We had tried a bigger brand and more expensive model, but it smelled and we really didn't feel that it was safe to operate. Amazon took it back very quickly and easily. (We love Amazon customer service!)

One small thing: About two weeks ago, for whatever reason, the "on" light started to turn on even when the unit is turned to off, when we hit the power on our power strip.

We just have to be careful that we don't put anything on it or put our hands over what is now a slightly warm "coil." We jiggle the knob and can sometimes get the light/coil to go off. After a year of daily use, not a biggie.

PS: We paid a lot less than the current price for it, making it a real bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice product, January 8, 2009

Nice looking and works wonderfully, love the solid burner surfaces which stay very clean. Mine does have an "on" indicator - apparently earlier versions did not but they now do. Replaced a stove with only 2 working burners with this unit and a DeLonghi oven, gained enormous space and no sacrifice in cooking ability - and I cook a lot.

on time as specified, this is the best burner i have ever owned,it allows one to cook as if it was a gas stove, cast iron embedded elements even the heat, ive used this burner fo 2years,and i have only one exception and its a big one, their is no power on light for the unit, when it reaches temp the light goes off and one doesnt know if its on or off, luckily in the morning you only have a glob of instead of a fire,as it maintains the heat temp so well, ive been going to add a light but havent yet,if you want the best, and remember to shut it off this is the best!!!

I have used this product for a couple of months now, and I love it. It takes a minute to heat up, but no longer than a normal electric stove. I am able to cook quite nicely in my dorm room with it. The entire surface does get hot, so it is necessary to be careful not to touch any of the metal pieces. It is very easy to clean and has had no problems so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Stove, January 13, 2012
This review is from: Aroma AHP-312 Double Burner Hot Plate
I bought this to conserve on propane use since electric is cheaper than propane. It boiled water in under 5 minutes on the big burner. The little one works well for lower temp simmering. I was concerned because many of these got negative reviews but i sprung for one. Now i never use my stove. To sum it up i would recommend purchasing one of these!!!

I have had this about a year and it works great. I use it to melt beeswax for candles and to heat my soap for soapmaking. The temperature seems to be very consistent on a dial setting, and the cast iron tops keeps the heat even which is great for my crafts.

I had beans on one burner and rice on the other, and both cooked perfectly. Very nice stove, easy to clean, easy to use.

2.0 out of 5 stars It does cook., January 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aroma AHP-312 Double Burner Hot Plate
Honestly, all I can say about this hot plate, is that it does indeed cook food. That being said, it only cooks on the left side. The right eye is useless, so multi-task cooking is not happening. The only result you're likely to see using two eyes is a tripped breaker. I would assume this means it is not a very cost-efficient device. The left eye (larger one) gets incredibly hot, even on the medium setting. Bringing something to a boil doesn't take as long as some claim, but getting that temperature back down takes a while. I use it almost daily, and I have used it almost daily for over a year now. It's tough, it cooks. There ya go.
