Product Description

Take advantage of the fastest, safest way to cook with the Aroma Gourmet induction Cook top. Induction heats quicker than traditional gas or electric stovetops- and operates up to 70-percent more efficiently. The Aroma Induction Cook top will only operate when induction-safe cookware is in place; it shuts off automatically once cookware is removed. The easy-to-use digital controls set to 6 temperature levels and the programmable timer sets up to 180 minutes. There is no open flame produced by induction, the cookware itself becomes the heating element for quick and even heat distribution. And since the cook top itself does not heat, burnt on spills are a thing of the past. Spills easily wipe away from the ceramic cook top surface. The induction cook top is also great for serving on its low temperature setting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boils 2 qts cold water in < 10 min, November 5, 2011
By
This review is from: Aroma AID-506 Induction Hot Plate (Kitchen)
I just picked this up last night from a very popular membership warehouse for <50 bucks. As soon as I got it home, I unpacked it and plugged it in. I filled my graduated stainless Pyrex pot up to the 2 qt line with cold tap water. I covered the pot with its glass lid and turned the hot plate on. I set it to the max setting of six and checked the time, 9:15. Through the glass lid, I could see bubbles forming within the first minute. By most peoples' definition of boiling, it was boiling within 8 minutes. I then pulled the lid and continued to observe. By 9:25, it was a full-on rolling boil - the kind that spits water everywhere if left uncovered.

The second picture that Amazon shows with the boiling pot surrounded by ice cubes was totally my experience. As the water was furiously boiling away, the surrounding glass felt cool to my touch.

I also tested the lower temp settings. When choosing settings 1-5, the device simply cycles the heat on and off. The output does not appear to be variable - only the amount of delay between heat cycles varies. The delay between heat cycles is longer at the lower settings. At level 6, it appears to be "on" all of the time (no cycling).

The hot plate has a cooling fan to keep its electronics cool. It is a fairly loud fan, so I'm guessing it has pretty good velocity and volume.

The timer is simple to operate and shuts off the hot plate at the time of your choosing.

5.0 out of 5 stars As advertised, December 24, 2011
This review is from: Aroma AID-506 Induction Hot Plate (Kitchen)
Picked this up at COSTCO for $40-something. I find this Aroma works better than the expensive Fagor (?) that I used at a friends. Much easier to use. As in, not always trying to find the "sweet spot" to get the burner to come on. (I had the same problem w/ a Frigidaire that I ended up returning). Stays cool around the burner and not hot right after use. Cleans up nicely. I liked it enough that I purchased another for my dad. The only potential drawback, is that the low settings, 1-2, might get a bit hotter than expected. I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Technology is Great!, February 3, 2012

This cooktop is great!
- Cooks well with all the pans in the inexpensive try-ply stainless steel cookware set I picked up at W. Mart.
- Heats the pans quickly and so far has done just as well as the stove for cooking eggs, grilled sandwiches, rice and veggies. Boils water for tea/coffee as fast as my electric kettle.
- The controls are dead-simple, the built in timer is useful, and it's easy to clean.
- The pan-detect and auto-shutoff are good safety features - reduces energy waste and now I don't have to worry about accidentally burning down the house.
- The fan does make a bit of noise [like any fan does] but it isn't noticeable over the stereo or t.v. There is also an electric "buzz" when the pan is being heated, but again, it's not distracting.
- Would be a great choice for those in dorms or studio apartments, or for single-folk and couples.

Most of the negative reviews I've read for these machines have been from people who seem to not have done their research before buying.
- A magnet *must* be able to stick to the bottom of your pan and the bottom of the pan must be generally smooth [mine have a small circular indention in the middle for the brand name but still work well]. You can also find an "interface disk" here on amazon to use with your non-magnetic [aluminum] pans.
- To keep foods from sticking let the pan and the induction cooker "warm up" on a lower setting and use a bit of oil/butter - canola spray is a good choice - and then move up to the higher settings as needed. This will also keep your pans from warping and the electronics in your cooktop from dying earlier.
- YouTube has some videos if you want to see these machines in action!

I bought mine from Amazon Warehouse and it seems to be a new model with a "cosmetic error" [there is a bubble under the plastic above the on/off button]. That bubble saved me nearly twenty bucks :D
I'd recommend picking one of these up if you are looking for quick, energy efficient, easy-to-use and relatively inexpensive cooktop!
