I was a die-hard Zojirushi fan (and still am, really) but when I had to buy a new rice cooker, I just couldn't stand the thought of paying all that money, especially since I wanted a model that made a bunch of rice, so I decided to give this a try. I have to say, I have been very pleasantly surprised. Everyone in my family thinks the rice is really pretty good, I LOVE that I can steam with it - does a nice job with buns and dumplings (baozi are great in this). Easy to clean and pretty quick.

The saute and simmer feature is pretty neat - to make good flavored rice I actually sauteed some onions in butter right IN the rice cooker, then I put in my rice and chicken broth and spices, then set the rice cooker to "white rice" to cook.

If you are looking for a very versatile rice cooker, are thinking about trying a rice cooker for the first time, or want something that steams as well, this is definitely a good purchase.

I bought this item to cook vegetables and fish. I have not been disappointed. Works great. Great flavor, easy cleanup, start it up and walk away. The steam mode does a good job. I have cooked rice once with it. The plastic tray cleans easier than an aluminum steamer tray used on the cheaper models. I have lost 40 lbs by cooking healthy meals with this steamer. The autmomatic mode is nice because I can start it , and come back in 30 mnutes and I am ready to eat. I now have 2 steamers, one for veggies(mostly green beans/brocoli), and the other for fish (cod/flounder/salmon). The fish is moist and flakey, mostly using frozen cod fillets. This larger size is recommended for non-rice cooking, because the space is needed. I highly recommend this item for convenient - healthy - meals.

Our black and decker rice cooker stopped working after 6 years. We eat rice every day and mostly make white rice (basmati or sona masoori rice). I had three requirements from the rice cooker - a steaming tray, dish washable and good looking. This rice cooker met all three requirements and sits pretty on our kitchen counter. The rice comes out excellent. The rice has never stuck to the bottom of the rice cooker and depending on the amount of water one adds, one gets just done rice or really soft rice. This feature comes in very useful for making biryanis and fried rice. The best part about the rice cooker is that all the grains come out separately. I do not need to add oil or lemon juice to the rice. It is also super easy to clean by hand and I have put it in the dish washer too without harm. So far, I have only tried out sona masoori rice. I also steam vegetables such as cauliflower, peas, carrots and potatoes while the rice is cooking and make Indian vegetable curries. They come out delicious. The lid of the ricwe cooker has to be wiped clean after use but since there is hardly any residue, it takes a few seconds to clean it. Definitely recommended!

Update: We used the saute and simmer function for the first time - We added a little oil and allowed it to heat. It took more than 5 minutes to heat up enough t how we liked enough to make the cinnamon, clove and cardammom splutter. The end result was good but I will probably use my stove to do the sauteing part.
We also tried out basmati rice for the first time and realised the 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice results in slighly over cooked rice. We will try with adding lesser water next time.

The rice cooker still works very well and we are quite happy after a few months.

I bought this rice cooker for my wife, she loves rice and wanted the rice to be just like we get all the restaurants that we eat at. We live in Tokyo Japan and the rice turns out just like the industrial restaurant rice cookers we normally get when we go out. It is pretty fast and rice comes out consistent. Great product.

Bought the Aroma ARC-1010SB 20 Cup Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer for our daughter's wedding reception. We have never owned an Aroma before, so thought we should test it before the wedding. We used it this past weekend for a church potluck dinner, so needed to make large volume of rice. We did the full 20 cup capacity. The rice cooked perfectly Nissan Super Basmati Rice, 40-Pound! The delay timer feature is fantastic, and I loved the alarm when it finished cooking and the automatic shift to "warm". The variety of functions available is so helpful, and it's a beautiful piece of equipment! We have already ordered two more!

I am very happy with this cooker. Never have I had a Rice cooker that does what it is suppose to do with so much ease.
And then to have "perfect" rice! NO watching, no peeking to see how it is cooking. (I always add an extra small amount of water to all my rice to get it cooked like I like it.
You can test your rice when it is done and then add more water if you want to. I add "before" I start cooking as I know by now what
I need. Watch out for the Steam when you open it.
This cooker makes no noise and I was wondering if it was working. Sooooo Sweet! It is a bit large for me, but, it can be used for
cooking other things that would take more room so I feel it was the best size. I cooked more Rice than I wanted and then cooled
and bagged it and put it in the freezer so I can conveniently take a bag out when I want it.
This Cooker is worth every Penny and More!! You will love it..!

Would give zero stars if possible. No matter how little you make of rice/quinoa/farro, etc, the starch/husk pieces steam out the top and all over counter. And the most I have cooked is 6 cups raw, while it is supposed to allow for 10. This counter top appliance is the least cleanable of any I have ever had. Top gets filthy and sticky from starch inside and out, and yet cannot be removed for cleaning. Insane design! Also, lid has gasket inside which clogs within and underneath, which also cannot be removed. Vent has cover that has to be removed and cleaned, and vent itself is built into top, making it impossible to fully clean. You can never get anything but the removable bowl fully cleaned. Starch runs down outside of cooker, creating sticky mess. Cooker takes longer than other rice cookers. I cannot express how disappointed I am in this. I had a traditional rice cooker for 30 years, which only recently started having problems. It also steams vegis, and does everything this one does, but with less bells and whistles. Not digital, but one button. It turns the appliance on, cooks, then clicks off to "warm" until unplugged. Simple. Does not steam all over the place, and lid can be removed for easy cleaning, without any gasket. And don't get me started on the ridiculousness of complicating a simple rice cooker with a "steam catcher," that clearly doesn't work, but is one more thing to clean. I would give anything to have sent it back, but waited too long to try it, and now am screwed. I will sell at first yard sale, and go back to the traditional rice cooker that has worked forever in the Chinese restaurant industry, and worked in the home version for me for over 30 years. And for half the price! Wow, did I ever screw up here. Save yourself the money and trouble.

Because I gave away my old Zojirushi to family members who needed it, I decided to get a new rice cooker. I live with several other people so this size was perfect. additionally, the versatility of the product was a major factor in my decision to purchase it.

Upon opening the box, I noticed that all the parts were clean and well-made. Assembly was a breeze, and the control panel was easy-to-use and organized.

My favorite art about this appliance is its versatility. I have steamed vegetables, meats, and will be trying fish with the steamer basket. along with steaming veggies and meats, I have also made delectable omelets, using the Sauté then Simmer function to sauté ingredients beforehand; delicious, homemade soups and broths; traditional Chinese jok; hot, steel-cut oats; and kielbasa with peppers, mushrooms and onions. Aroma's web site also contains many, many recipes for you to try. In the near future, I hope to try baking bread, cakes, and making pot roasts too.

In spite of its versatility, this rice cooker makes excellent rice. Generally for the best result, I use the measuring cup which came with the unit to measure out the water. Both white rice and brown rice comes out perfectly, and unlike my old Zojirushi, there's no starchy, watery mess to sop up off the counter.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and I'd highly recommend this rice cooker to college students living in dorms, people in small apartments, or anyone who just wants great food without having to nurse a pot on the stove.

After our old $15 Kmart special rice cooker died, I went on a major research binge. I had to have the perfect rice cooker - no more sticking to the pan, no more watching the stove, no more rushing home early to get the brown rice on in time for dinner at 6. I wanted it all and I didn't care how much I paid for it. Once I put several choices in front of the wife in the $300-500 range, I realized I did care how much I paid for it. A little more research brought me to this cooker - the Aroma ARC-1010SB. Not only does it cook perfect rice, white or brown, but it does a pretty good bowl of steel cut oatmeal, too. I am careful to never cook more than 4 servings of oatmeal, though, or it will create a bubbly mess all over the counter. Rinse your rice well, set the timer and forget it. Hot rice for dinner when you get home, hot oatmeal for breakfast when you wake up. Easy clean-up, easy everything.

Great rice cooker, makes perfect rice every time.
The paddle that was included could have been a little larger and sturdier, i am afraid it will break every time I use it.
Great for brown and white rice. The steamer is also a great feature, I can have my rice and vegetables at the same time. Love it!!
