5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, if it fits your needs
We have owned this for over 3 months now. It is our first rice cooker and I have only praise for it. But make sure that this fits your needs, otherwise you might be disappointed.
1. We use it pretty much only when we are traveling.
2. For two people, the quantity is just right. (If there are more members, a bigger volume cooker might be a better option.)...

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke after second day of use
After having used this a couple days, it stopped working. Given it was only $14, it wasn't even worth returning for a refund.

We have owned this for over 3 months now. It is our first rice cooker and I have only praise for it. But make sure that this fits your needs, otherwise you might be disappointed.
1. We use it pretty much only when we are traveling.
2. For two people, the quantity is just right. (If there are more members, a bigger volume cooker might be a better option.)
3. We read the earlier reviews and we switch off the cooker once the switch turns to warm after the rice is done.
4. We have made noodles and attempted a few Indian dishes (upma) which turned out quite fine.
5. If you wash the rice in the pot, it is a good idea to wipe the outside of the pot with a dry cloth before placing it in the cooker. That way the water won't ruin anything inside.

Just a couple of drawback:
** The amount of water needed varies slightly with each brand of rice. So I pretty much ignored their instructions and got it right after varying the water amount for 2-3 experiments.
** The etched measurement levels and water level markings in the dark background are pretty much impossible to read.

Overall, for the price, it is a great product. I think we recovered our money in the first 2 weeks itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can't Go Wrong, May 22, 2010
This review is from: Aroma ARC-733-1NGR 6-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
This is my first rice cooker. I am very pleased. You can brown the bottom if you leave it on 'warm' after the cook cycle ends, which is really quite hot. But, use common sense and unplug soon after the cook cycle is done and you will have no problems. I remove the inner bowl with a pot holder. Some like the rice slightly browned at the bottom. This product is great. I am not sure what all the bells and whistles do on more expensive models, but from what I have read on the net, and my own needs, you can't go wrong with this product and can probably make anything you want without the need for a more expensive model. I do keep the top part on, even when I only cook rice. In that way there is no chance of spillover from the cooking cycle. I mean, how can you possibly go wrong for 15$!!

If you love vegetables and don't have a large family this is great. It is easy to use and clean-up is done in seconds. You just put water in the bottom bowl and place any kind of vegetables you have around the house in the steamer basket. Put the lid on for 20-25 minute and go on with the rest of your meal and that is it. If it finishes before your dinner just put it on warm and your all set. If you have a garden, this is a must. Wonderful for keeping things warm till the family gets home. I love this little electric pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be simpler or better., November 22, 2010

We have wanted a rice cooker for quite some time, but we were unwilling to spend a hundred dollars on an appliance that we might not use all that often. So, we opted for the lower end cooker - and couldn't be happier.

We have used it for jasmine rice, white and brown, as well as the regular bargain bag-o-rice variety. Following the included instructions produces excellent rice. We did as other reviewers had suggested and left the empty steamer pot in so it would not spit out over the top and turned it off as soon as the cooking was done. No mess on the counter; no stuck rice in the bottom of the pot.

If you are wanting to try a rice cooker, why not invest a little and try this? We did; it works as advertised; it's a great value - and the rice is delicious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't live without this rice cooker, October 22, 2010
This review is from: Aroma ARC-733-1NGR 6-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
We received so many kitchen gadgets and home appliances as part of our wedding registry and this rice cooker has to be the one that we use and appreciate the most. No more burning rice in a pot on the oven or ending up with waterlogged or al dente rice. This little gadget makes it so easy to cook rice. All you do is put in 1.5 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice that you dump in. You set the machine to `cook' and once it's ready it will pop over to `keep warm' until the rest of your food is ready.

You can't completely just set it and forget it because you will need to stir the rice once in a while to ensure it cooks evenly. We've also found that adding a little extra water towards the end of the cooking process helps prevent burning. This machine also cooks quinoa perfectly, although it's better to leave the lid slightly open so that the quinoa doesn't make a huge mess.

We could no longer live without this rice cooker so if you're tired of eating badly cooked rice definitely make the modest investment in this machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Aroma ARC-733-1NGR 6-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I have owned this amazing rice cooker for 3 years now. I love it! I am single and it makes just enough rice for me while steaming some veggies as well. If you are wanting to cook for more than a few people, you will want a larger version. I came back to buy one for more bother who is heading off to college. It has been the best and more recommended item thing I own. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars works like a charm, February 7, 2011

For two people this is the ticket. Rice, including the Jambalaya, dirty rice, etc. box mixes, come out perfect every time. Follow the instructions for brown rice exactly and you will be amazed! Fish or other meat steamed on top adds great flavor to the rice.
Try this: Brown a half pound sausage (I like hot) and a quarter of a diced onion, throw in a quarter of a diced bell pepper just before oniion and sausage is finished browning. Add the required amout of water, a box of Louisana style Dirty Rice Mix, and the sausage mixture to the little magic pot and set to COOK. Ces Bon!

After minimal use we plugged the cooker in one day only to find that it would not work. It worked great for a while anyway!
