Operation is markedly simple: Measure the desired amount of rinsed rice and the appropriate amount of water with the provided measuring cup into the removable anodized nonstick cooking pot. Drop the pot into the cooker, ensure that the pot makes contact with the dual heating element, close the lid (it will click shut), and plug the AC cord into the wall outlet. Then simply press the one-touch switch. The attached sealed lid creates the ideal pressure for cooking the rice--keeping it warm and moist for up to 12 hours--and the detachable water collector collects condensation, preventing boil-overs during cooking. If you have any leftovers, the cooking pot can be used to store them until you're ready to reheat by simply adding a little extra water and warming.
The cooker includes the aforementioned measuring cup, as well as a spoon, plastic steam tray, instruction/recipe booklet, and a Martin Yan (from the national public television series) recipe booklet. It comes with a one-year limited warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

13 Years and Still Going Strong,

This review is from: Aroma ARC-886 12-Cup Electronic Cool-Touch Rice Cooker/Food Steamer (Kitchen)
This rice cooker is beyond great. I can't compare it to any others, because it is the first rice cooker I ever had, and I haven't had to replace it yet. My husband's Korean aunt purchased it for us when we first moved in together over 13 years ago. I love the retractable cord, it doesn't take up much room, and the rice is perfect every time. The only reason I rated it a four is because the little container on the side of mine broke about a year ago, and after that it leaked water onto the countertop, which could be a little dangerous. Now I put something on the side to catch the excess water, but I plan on replacing the rice cooker with another Aroma one (only because I would like a stainless steel one to match my decor). Also, it does make 6 cups uncooked rice, but for my family of four that's enough, since it keeps the rice fresh for about a day. We just make more rice, and it doesn't take very long compared to some models my friends are using (ex. Zojirushi).

I have this rice cooker, which I understand is now discontinued. When I first got it, I had some trouble with it burning the rice. I'm not sure why and I no longer recall exactly under what circumstances it occurred. I put it away for a couple of years and pulled it back out when we had a Thai girl living with us for a while. She used it ALL THE TIME and loved it, and never had any problems with burning anything. Having long since lost the owner's manual, I asked her to show me how to work it. Now I too am able to make perfect rice whenever I choose. It can make about 12 cups of rice, maximum. I have no idea how rice-cookers are normally sold with respect to the number of cups of rice cooked or uncooked - but I do know that when I bought this cooker, I was looking for one that would cook between 6-12 cups, cooked, and that that is what I got, so I don't personally feel it was mislablled as another reviewer suggests. I like the simplicity of the one-button control and the ease of use, and the warming feature which will hold the rice at temperature for the rest of the day. I do occasionally wish there were a timer on it so I could set it to start cooking later rather than start it when I leave and have it sit, cooked and warming, for hours, on the occasion I need rice to be ready after a period of absence. It's not that big of a deal and since the rice doesn't take terribly long to cook anyway that is a rare occurrence. I would recommend this cooker, if it were available. Since it isn't, I'd recommend any comparable Aroma rice cooker!

Misleading label,

This product is clearly mislabeled as a 12 cup rice cooker. It is only a 5.5 cup rice cooker. Rice cookers are typically sold by uncooked cup quantity and not by cooked cup quantity. This product is being advertised as a 12 cup rice cooker, but the 12 cups refer to cooked quantity. If rice is your main dish, then this cooker will hardly feed your family! I am returning this product and am planning to buy a more trusted brand like Panasonic.
