5.0 out of 5 stars love it
my roommate had the ten-cup version of this. it was super fancy and had a brown rice button. and was just way too big. so when he moved out, i got this little cooker. it's marvelous. it does everything the larger version does (including making brown rice), but it also has a removable inside cover, which makes clean up easier, and it takes up less space! i never need...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked Great, Then Broke
The cooker worked great for about 7-8 months. It was a good size for cooking rice for a few people, cooked fast, and looked nice.

I don't know what happened, but now the light won't even turn on when it is plugged in.

Edit:

I poked around and found out that the thermal fuse, located inside a white plastic tube underneath the cooker...

4.0 out of 5 stars We've had ours for a year and it's still working well!, May 11, 2010

I have a friend who makes delicious Myanmar food and she did a video where she cooked using a rice maker and the rice came out perfectly. We've been making ours on the stove for years and never realized how easy these were to use so my sister and I went out and found an inexpensive model that looked nice at Target. This is the model we came home with. Usually we're just cooking for the two of us and occasionally one or two other people so this is the perfect size it takes up very little room and we just pour in water butter and rice press the button and get other things done while we wait. As long as we put in the right amount of water it always cooks perfectly. It's cool to the touch so we never get burnt and it's easy to clean. It looks very nice on the counter top too. Sometimes the attached lid makes things complicated and be careful because the little steam catcher on the side falls out easily and dumps the excess water on the counter (an easy clean up but annoying) but that's the only thing I've found to complain about. I'm very happy with this model and would recommend it to friends.

The cooker worked great for about 7-8 months. It was a good size for cooking rice for a few people, cooked fast, and looked nice.

I don't know what happened, but now the light won't even turn on when it is plugged in.

Edit:

I poked around and found out that the thermal fuse, located inside a white plastic tube underneath the cooker (it's the first thing you'll see on the power wire after it comes in through the back) had been tripped. Unfortunately, there's no way to reset a thermal fuse once it is tripped, so I had to buy a replacement at Radio Shack. $1.81 including tax, and it's working again.

Replacement part is located here:

Still giving it three stars, since most people probably aren't willing to poke around with electrical components to fix.

4.0 out of 5 stars Careful with the warm setting..., November 7, 2010

I purchased this rice cooker for my husband who loves rice like nobody else. We had seen this at Target originally and compared to the other models we've seen, this one was much better. We love the push button lid. It makes a super secure and tight seal as opposed to other cookers where the lid simply sits on top like a standard crock pot lid would. There's no seal! For making good rice, you need a good sealing lid to keep the steam in. So this model was a winner not only for the seal, but the price as well. Its super easy to operate with a two setting button COOK and WARM....it pops to the warm setting at the end of the cook cycle automatically. You really need to watch this however as rice left on the warm setting can and will continue to cook and shouldn't be left long at all to avoid burning. (that was our first experience) Good thing is that it cleans up quickly! Also, be aware that when you plug it in - its immediately on warm and is heating. There is no OFF setting. You just simply unplug it. All in all, its a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased!, February 2, 2011

After six months of use, I am still very pleased with my purchase. Not only does this rice cooker work well, but the price is fantastic! I cook 2-4 cups of rice (both brown and white) at least two or three times a week and have not had any problems so far. It's easy to clean, the rice doesn't stick to the bottom, the rice (both brown and white) cooks well, and water does not bubble out even when cooking the full 4 cups of rice.

I don't know why so many people have had issues with this rice cooker. I assume that they didn't grow up with rice cookers. Yes, the rice cooker can't be "shut off" while it's plugged in, but I've NEVER owned a rice cooker that did. I'm pretty sure you would have to buy a fancy rice cooker to get that feature, but who wants to spend that kind of money when rice cookers should just be simple and effective?

The only downside is that once you plug the rice cooker in, the cook light immediately comes on, even before you press the button down to start cooking the rice. So unless you pay attention to what you're doing, you'll think your rice is cooking when really it's just sitting there! The real test will be whether or not the grey non-stick coating will eventually start to peel off. After six months of use, the coating has not bubbled, and it doesn't look like it will begin to peel or chip off anytime soon. Don't buy an IMUSA rice cooker or any rice cooker with a black coating on the inside. That coating will eventually start to peel off and get into your rice. Yummy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rice cooker, March 22, 2010

I bought this rice cooker b/c I broke the glass top on 2 other rice cookers and decided this one looked nice. I loved the idea that it didn't have a glass cover. So far, I am very happy with this rice cooker. It is super easy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars It cooks rice and keeps it warm, February 9, 2010

Works as advertised. Don't get annoyed about the steamer tray- that's like giving a sedan a low rating for not having a convertible top. If you want extra features get a more expensive model.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great except that it stops working after 6 months, April 13, 2011

The rice cooker was great for the first 6 months I had it. But then it stopped working. I researched the reviews here and found out that it had to do with the fuse. I bought one from Radioshack and replaced it. And now it is working again.

What sucks is that returning the item costs you $20 in shipping for an obvious defect in the product.

If you don't mind the problem with the fuse, it is a great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars really poor quality, February 24, 2010
This review is from: Aroma ARC-914SB 4-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I bought a new one at Target and after using it for 3 times, the button can not be pushed down. And sometimes it can be pushed down, but it will automaticlly jump up but the rice still not well cooked. Probably others are good, but mine is definitely can not work now, only 5 months.
