Excellent rice cooker.,

This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I had researched several higher priced rice cookers (over $100) before buying this one. I came across it at Sam's Club ($30) and thought I should give it a try. I was skeptical at first, because most rice cookers in this price range received horrible reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised the first time I used it. It took 15 minutes or so to cook 3 cups of rice and it came our perfect, just like you would get from a good Chinese restaurant. I've never been able to cook rice like that before. It's great. It's also very easy to clean.

So far Jasmine & Brown Rice,
This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I ordered this item through Sam's Club because they offer service contract after the warranty, otherwise I would have bought it here on Amazon.
Anyway, I got the rice cooker today and made 2 batches of rice to test it out. First, I made 2 cups of Jasmine Rice. It came out perfect and fast. The package states 15-20 minutes, the cooker got it done in about 10 minutes. The real test is always, the Brown Rice. I made 4 cups of Brown Rice to yield 8 cups. I followed the instruction booklets recommended amounts. I believe Brown Rice takes about an hour normally to cook, the cooker got it done in the range of 20 - 30 minutes. Perfect rice, fluffy, flavorful. WOW! I have a bunch of more rice to try. Wild, Red etc. I will update once I get those done. However I have a feeling they will all end up the same. Cleanup is easy, and the only thing that I had a problem with is the term "Cup". Normally we think of a "cup" being the measure we use when we cook, but apparently there is a a different "cup" measurement for the rice. The booklet states rice industry standards for the measurement. So 1 cup is less than what you get when you normally use the cup measure at home. So it's a bit miss leading when they say 10 cups, its probably closer to 8.

Good product for the paid price,

This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
My wife bought this product more than one month back and below are some of the details mentioned about her likes and dislikes:
Likes: 1]Cooks rice well --soft and fluffy. Depends on the individuals on how they want the rice to be cooked[For those who want the rice to be fluffy for one measure of rice add 3 cups of water.] Unplug immediately once it turns to warm and keep the rice pot outside else rice becomes bit harder. 2]since its a 10 -cup rice cooker, best for larger families(2+) or for those wherein guests keep coming. 3] Steamed vegetables comes out good Dislikes: 1] Starch content form the rice which getting collected at the bottom if u dont turn the rice, using the spatula provided, almost at the end while cooking. 2] Cleaning though its nonstick- as u need to clean the vessel lid, steam vent, condensation collector and the inside lid of the rice cooker. Also some starch from rice at the top edges of the cooker. But still no isssues better than Indian Pressure cookers :-) as they are not heavy.

Hot spot,
This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
Rice was cooked fine, but on "warm" there seems to be a hot spot where the rice became brown and overcooked.

Rice is burning and drying up!,

This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I am very disappointed that, unlike my previous AROMA rice cooker, this rice cooker is not functioning well. The bottom of rice is always burnt and rice dries up so quickly that I can not use the "keep warm" mode. I regret that I bought this through the internet.

Aluminum Pot, Not Stainless Steel!,
By
This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I have had an old rice cooker with aluminum pot for many years. After reading the long term possible health effect of exposing to aluminum, I decided to get a stainless steel rice cooker.
I bought this product under the assumption that the pot is made of stainless steel. But that's true only for the outer finish. The inner pot is still aluminum. The product description is very misleading. Aroma's customer service is very slow and refuse to take any responsibility.

I have owned this rice cooker for over a year and have used it for different kinds of white, brown and wild rices. It always cooks the rice perfectly, which is great! BUT, beware of the "keep warm" setting as the rice will dry out, burn and get crispy pretty quickly. This is problematic for when you're cooking several things, which is almost all all the time, and the rice is done first. At first I thought I wasn't adding enough liquid, but that's not it. The "keep warm" setting is just too warm. I will continue to use mine until it wears out, but will not buy another. Oh, and I also use it for steaming artichokes (with my own metal steamer basket) and asparagus in the basket provided, so if you're looking at another steamer, they're great for freeing up a burner on the stove.

A Gift I Learned To Love,
This review is from: Aroma ARC-940SB 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I got this as a gift and my first thought was what the heck do I need a rice cooker for? I thought about returning it but decided to give it a try instead.
Glad I kept it. I've used it for all kinds of rice - brown, white, forbidden rice, wild rice, rice blends, rice and grain blends. All have come out perfect. The steam basket has been excellent too. Perfect for stir fry meals when you don't want overcooked veggies. I just steam them and toss them in the sauce with my chicken when I'm ready to serve.

I think this rice cooker is a great deal! The fit and finish is very decent (obviously not at the level of the cookers that cost several hundred dollar cookers, but still very acceptable).
It cooks rice decently well, though I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is very picky about their rice since I don't get the same consistency everytime and this would be annoying to someone who was very picky. I've never used it to cook 10 cups of rice - I live on my own and don't eat that much rice, but 2-5 cups work just fine. The cooker is really easy to use and really easy to clean up afterwards. While the cooker is by no means perfect, I gave it a 5 star rating anyway because I think it's an excellent product for the price. |
