No need to spend one cent more,

Even though I felt the low price on this cooker was suspect, I thought I would give it a chance. I wasn't expecting it to last long or work well - boy was I wrong!! I have used it several times a week for going on three years now, and it's still working flawlessly - try to say that about, well, probably any other small applicance in your entire kitchen.
Everyone should have a rice-cooker - they're great time-savers, not to mention meal-savers. Even people who can't boil water can make perfect rice every time. The reasons I love my Aroma cooker in particular are: 1) It makes much less mess than others I've used (rice cookers tend to blurble starchy water around the rim while cooking, but the heavy glass lid of the Aroma, and the vent hole, keep it from spattering the counter) 2) It shuts off automatically when it's done cooking, regardless of the type of rice used (I still have no idea how it "knows" there's brown rice that needs a longer cooking time in there, as opposed to jasmine rice which cooks faster - but it does!) 3) It keeps the rice warm for hours if necessary without burning on the bottom or drying out 4) The inner pot lifts out easily to clean. If I ever have to replace this little workhorse, I'll definitely replace it with another Aroma. (I hope by then they make one in red!)

Burns rice,
This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I bought this rice cooker eight months ago and it was really convenient at first. Recently however, the cooked rice has started sticking to the bottom of the cooking pan - apart from burnt rice, this also causes the pan to become really hard to clean. If I add more water, it still sticks at the bottom while remaining soggy above - weird since the coating of the pan seems to be intact. The only good thing about this cooker is that it steams veggies beautifully.

I had an older version of this same rice cooker, and I replaced it with this one when it died. It's very easy to use, consistently makes great rice and steamed vegetables, and very easy to clean as well. The steaming tray is a bit small, but it's perfect for me and my fiancee.

The Aroma Brand is reliable and economical. Perfect rice every time. If you don't like instant rice and don't like standing over the stove while the regular rice cooks, this is for you. Add rice and water, plug it in, tap switch and walk away. Cooks the rice then keeps it warm for hours if necessary. Get the Rice cooker cook book for dozens of ways to use the cooker for other things.

The glass top is vented, which prevents steam from spewing all over the outside of the rice cooker and the counter, as often happens with cheap rice cookers. Nonetheless, cooked rice sticks to the bottom of the pan. The product came missing a steam rack that was supposed to be included. Three emails to Aromaco's customer service department (listed on its website), and 2 phone calls, where I was put on hold for 45 and 60 minutes (before I gave up), yielded no results at all. For these reasons, I would not recommend buying this rice cooker.

Works OK, but...,

This rice cooker does a great job of cooking rice with one major, glaring problem: there is always a layer of rice stuck to the bottom of the cooking pan. I've tried increasing the water, coating the pan with butter or PAM, anything, and the bottom layer of the pan is always covered with a layer of burned-on rice. This is awful for actually making small amounts of rice, as you get a lot of waste thanks to it burning on. Otherwise, it works well. The rice that doesn't burn is tasty and it doesn't make a mess, and at least the pan is easy to clean, but the sticking to the bottom seriously makes this rice cooker something I wouldn't recommend buying.

Its called "Teflon",
This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I got this product to make some rice at my college dorm. The last thing to want in a small dorm room is a messy rice cooker. It makes rice alrite but the bowl is not non-stick so after making rice you'll have to soak the bowl in water for a few hours before u can wash it. Also the glass top spews out all the froth and boiling water from that little hole on top of it like a blue whale, covering my table top and nearby things. I trashed it after 3-4 uses. I got myself a better cooker now, Panasonic with micro-computer??, and it is a pure bliss!!!

Layer of burned rice on bottom, but still a good product,

I agree with another reviewer that there is always a layer of burned rice on the bottom. I guess it is burned. I don't know what you would call it. Nevertheless, I still love this rice cooker.
I find that it makes great rice and the cleanup is easy. I have never experienced a teflon or plastic smell. As a new mom, I was finding it hard to eat right. Even making toast can be challenging sometimes! This rice cooker has changed my life. I'm thinking about giving it as a shower gift instead of the cute little outfit that will get worn once! I can start a huge batch of rice in about 3 minutes and I don't have to worry about turning it off when it's done. The warm function takes care of that for me. Then I have rice for days. Life is good. I was having problems with it sputtering like crazy out of the vent hole. It really made a huge mess. I suspect that this is because of altitude (I live at 9000 ft). Now I add salt and just a little butter and the sputtering is gone.

Disgusting smell,
By Honest (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
Unlike other viewers, I didn't experience the rice sticking to the bottom of the rice cooker unless it stays in the Warm mode. In this case, it seems to me that the rice dries out altogether.
What turns me off is the non-stick/teflon/plastic smell that adheres to the cooked rice. I've used the rice cooker over a dozen times now and it still generates the smell. As soon as I lift the lid after the rice has been cooked for about 5 mns, I can smell it. I don't know whether it's safe to eat rice with such smell, hence I don't recommend this product at all.

Needs Improvement,
This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food Steamer (Kitchen)
I like the rice cooker for its ease of cooking rice, Irish oatmeal and keeping it warm, but it sticks to the bottom and it will boil over if I do not lift the slightly to the side until it has completed the cooking cycle. I will not reccommed this item.
