extremely disappointing,
This review is from: Aroma ARC720G 10-cup Rice Cooker with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
Rice cookers must follow the same "money factor" rules that telephones do. To a certain point, the more money you pay for a telephone, the better quality you get. I think the same holds true for rice cookers. The Aroma ARC720G 10-cup rice cooker was on the low end of the price point scale, and it showed in the completely inadequate operation of the unit. Perhaps if I had aimed for a higher-priced model I would have had more luck. I wanted the 10-cup capacity and was happy this unit had such as a feature. Unfortunately the unit didn't work. Ever. The rice burned each and every time I used it. At first I thought it was me using the unit improperly, so I tried each suggestion by the manufacturer (rice rinsing, oiling the pan, preheating the rice, whathaveyou) and not a single one of them worked. Then I thought the unit was defective so I returned it to the store and got another one. Same problem. I repeated this again with no luck and that that point I decided that the unit was simply poorly designed and poorly constructed. If you want to steam vegetables and custard, fine, but maybe you'd be better off with a vegetable steamer designed specifically for that purpose. They're about the same price or cheaper, but at least the cheaper ones won't set off the smoke detectors in your house like this unit does during "normal operation." In general, this is a poor product, with crummy operation. I think you would be better off saving some money by buying a more expensive unit. You'll end up paying more for this unit in gas hauling it back to the store like I did.

A huge disappointment. It burned the rice every time we used it. A defective model? Maybe, but we'll return it and try another brand.

I bought this model for my daughter to take to college. She was delighted to receive it, however after about 6 uses, it no longer worked. It's very disappointing when a gift breaks after so little use. I wouldn't buy anything from this manufacturer again.

Lasted for a little more than a year,
This review is from: Aroma ARC720G 10-cup Rice Cooker with Glass Lid (Kitchen)
I picked this model up at sams club for 20 bucks and it has worked very well for an entire year. There are some obvious problems given that it is THE cheapest rice cooker out there- in particular if you dont "unplug" it from the main connection and leave rice in it- the rice will become more like biscuits. But that is basic physics- if the rice is subject to constant heat for an extend period of time it gets completely dehydrated and will become crisp. Thats not the fault of the rice cooker really. But it would have been nice if they added a Power switch on the rice cooker so that one didnt need to keep pulling the plug from the main connection. The other problem is that the rice at the bottom end of the cooker tends to get burnt and sticky (this happens to a very think layer of rice) - becoming a nuisance when washing the cooker. However they also provide a nonstick version of the main pot in which this does not happen.(it came in the same box- at least the one that I bought)

After reading all the negative reviews this rice cooker received, I felt the need to stand up and battle back! This rice cooker is simple to use and the clean-up is a breeze. Simply measure out the amount of rice you want to use and rinse it thoroughly prior to placing it in the pan. Add 1 1/2 cups of water for EVERY cup of rice you measured out. Place the lid on top, plug it in and push the "cook" button. Done! Shortly afterwards the alarm will go off and your rice is cooked. I suggest stirring it immediately, covering it and leaving it stand for an extra 5-10 minutes.
I just cannot relate to all these complaints about "burnt rice" and having to scrape it from the sides! For the price it's simply a no-brainer! The 10-cup feature is a bonus too! I love making rice for big groups and I always offer to bring some type of rice dish to any potluck!!! There are plenty of choices for other rice cookers on this website and in the stores but I just don't see the need to spend more $$$ when this rice cooker does the job!

Best Value, get what you pay for.,

I owned this Rice Cooker for about 6 months. After some helpful tips I finally found out how to make perfect rice with this thing.1) throughly clean your rice before putting it in the Rice Cooker. 2) Let the 1.25 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. 3) Let the rice soak for 20 minutes before you power on the thing. All in all, for $... this is a good deal, but this cooker doesn't last. Give it 1 year and it will die on you. My advice is to go for a more expensive model if you want something to last. If you want to experiment with a rice cooker then snag this one. better yet, get the 3 cup version for $...

I've had this model for about 8 months now and have been completely satisfied with it. I haven't burned rice in it once. Lack of a power switch is somewhat annoying but for the money this item is a great value.

I'm pretty disappointed with this product. It frequently burns the rice on the bottom of the pot, and the various suggestions in the instructions for avoiding this (oiling the pot, warming the rice first) don't seem to help very much. The steamer racks are great - I love being able to cook rice and steam vegetables without having two extra pots on the stove. Buying and using this product has sold me on rice cookers - I used to doubt how useful they are. Still, I'm not sold on *this* particular model. We're going to do some shopping around and try to find a different brand that doesn't burn our food!

Over and over and over I see everyone complaining about these rice cookers burning rice. Well you know what they are supposed to burn rice! I had one of these for 3 years and each and every time it would burn rice on the bottom and sides. All my friends had various kinds too and they also burnt rice each and every time. I expected it to, just like cooking rice in a pot thats what allowed the rice in the middle to cook properly. Also don't worry, you don't ever eat burnt rice unless of course you sat there and scrapped the burnt stuff off the sides. These cookers work fine for cooking rice, but expect to have to soak the pan in water for a few hours and scrape the burnt rice off. Also if you are timid about burnt rice stop complaining when you only spent 30 dollars. To get no burnt rice everytime you are going to have to fork over 150 dollars at least for the fuzzy logic ones and they are worth every penny. |
