Produces Delicious Rice - White or Brown - And Quckly,

I am very satisfied with this rice cooker. I use it to cook white or brown rice, the brown being my favorite. The brown rice takes a little longer to cook because you have to double the amount of water. For example, if you use one cup of white rice, you use one cup of water. With the brown rice, you use two cups of water for one cup of brown rice. Make sure to rinse the rice several times before placing it in the cooker. Rinse until the water is relatively clear. This step will keep the rice from being sticky after it cooks. Clean up was a breeze.

Both the name and product description for this item are incorrect. This is a rice cooker, but it is not also a steamer. I contacted customer service about the incorrect information on this page, but their only response was "if you don't like it, you can send it back." Do not buy this product if you want a rice cooker that can also be used as a steamer.

I HAD HEARD ABOUT RICE COOKERS AND WONDERED WHY I NEEDED ONE I COULD COOK RICE ON THE STOVE. WHY HAD I WAITED? THIS MODEL WAS JUST THE RIGHT SIZE AND HAD FEATURES OF THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONES. NOT TOO LARGE AND NOT TOO SMALL, THE LID LOCKS NOT JUST RESTS ON TOP, IT CATCHES THE WATER FROM THE CONDENSATION WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID, IT SWITCHES TO KEEP WARM WHEN THE RICE IS DONE (WHICH IT SOMEHOW KNOWS)IT HAS THIS PADLE TO SERVE THE RICE, AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT! NOW, NO MORE BOIL OVERS TO CLEAN UP AND FRESH RICE IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES!

Good design, makes great rice without burning the bottom,

My parents have this Aroma rice cooker, whereas I have a cheaper Black and Decker at my own apartment. So I have experience with rice cookers and I must say that this Aroma one is pretty good. For one thing, I like the locking lid, as opposed to a removable glass lid (like on my Black and Decker) with a hole in it. This means less clean-up. However, it also means that the cooking vessel can't serve as its own pot that you could just put directly into the fridge with leftovers; cheaper rice cookers with glass lids effectively increase you storage capacity, in a way. But it's a minor quibble. Best of all, this Aroma unit consistently makes good rice without ever burning the bottom or producing a sticky starchy layer at the bottom. My Black and Decker, as good as it is, ALWAYS produces a slightly toasted starchy layer at the bottom. The unit is not super-fast, but not slow either. I can make two cups of dry brown rice in about 40 minutes. This unit isn't huge, though, and I don't think it can make more than three dry cups of brown rice. If you're cooking for more than two people, you might want to get larger unit. Lastly, the steam vent does occasionally produce some excess water which drips out of the unit onto the surrounding area. It's only done this once so far, but make sure to keep an eye out if you have papers or other electronics nearby.

Great for 2-3 people,

The "cup" isn't really a cup - more like 3/4 of a cup, so if you really need 4 cups, you may want a larger unit. Nevertheless, this is a great rice cooker. It makes flawless rice with almost no effort. It's perfect for two people - makes enough for a meal with leftovers for a second meal. Would probably be OK for 3-4 people if you wanted to make a fresh batch with every meal. Extremely easy to clean, too. We're very happy with it and use it all the time.

dead twiice in two months,

I bought this rice cooker two months ago from Target. It brokeYesterday: it simply doesn't power on. Even though inserting power code into an outlet, I couldn't find the power light on, and rice was never cooked. Today I bought a new same as the previous one. I bet that the malfunction was just unlucky and it would never happen again. I lost, however. About 20 minutes after inserting power code, I noticed something happened and bad smells filled my room. I touched the cooker, and I was surprised. It was too hot. The smell was like from plastic material on fire. After the incident, the cooker is dead and doesn't power in again. I will return this tomorrow. I think this type has a defect on power function. It sometimes dies in short, and sometimes get cookers too hot, almost get it on fire.

I bought this 6 months ago. It worked perfectly until it died a couple of weeks ago. Sure it has warranty, but you need a return number and paying for the freight, which would be great if the people in customer service at Aroma picked up the phone so you can get the return number... since they do not after holding for 20+ minutes in 3 different ocations I can only say - Do not buy this if you want something that will work!

This is not a food steamer! Don't buy!,

This is NOT a food steamer. I purchased it as a Christmas present and I'm STILL trying to get [..] to make the situation right. Their solution was to just send me a steamer tray which won't work if the item is manufactured to only be a rice cooker. I'm asking them to send me a product that matches the item description. I'll let you all know if they honor this request. Meanwhile, don't buy this product!!

CAN steam w additional tray,
This review is from: Aroma Cool Touch Rice Cookers (Kitchen)
I bought this steamer locally, cuz I liked the small size. I still like it! It does rice nicely. No, they shouldn't claim "steamer" when they don't provide the basket, but at least you CAN fix your unit to do steaming. Search for "silicone steamer" here on amazon -- I found one of these Chef'n SleekStor Veggie Steam Silicone Steamer, Cherry locally and it squished into this rice unit quite nicely, and turns it into a veggie steamer. I can cook rice and steam veggies at the same time, since the silicone steamer has legs. Voila!

Not a Pricey or Dicey but Spicy-Looking Nice Rice Cooker,
This review is from: Aroma ARC-914B 8-Cup Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I formally bought a Zojirushi NSRNC-18A Automatic Rice Cooker (probably the best), and used it for five years and loved it. I did not take it with me when I moved. Recently, I tried to make rice on the stove and failed miserably. Solution: another rice cooker! I wanted one that would include all types of rice. I did not need the size of the Zojirushi, nor did I want to pay the cost. The Aroma ARC-914B looked more like the Zojirushi than others I saw. I bought it partially because I liked this style, and its cover; and partially because of the reviews. I followed the instructions (same as the Zojirushi) and have had perfect rice the first time & every time. It's great for special rices like Basamati, my favorite. It also makes regular supermarket brand rice taste great. Incredibly, the rice always has a wonderful texture to it. The ARC-914B does not burn the rice on the bottom as some do. I am extremely satisfied with this product. I will keep you informed if things change.
