not a bible,
This review is from: The Aromatherapy Bible: The Definitive Guide to Using Essential Oils (Paperback)
Yes, there is much information here but it covers too many areas that are not aromatherapy. Pages & pages devoted to massage & meditation techniques, emotional issues, yet only 2 pages to discuss the concept of top, middle & base notes. What about how to actually use those little bottles, some with special techniques to actually get the oil to flow or others that are open necked & will spill everywhere. And if you want to look up a specific oil - no such luck. Details on each oil are grouped by their type: citrus, root, flower. If you don't know the type then you must page thru the entire section cause there is not an index listing for the various oils. Bad editing choice. I would not recommend this book - find something else.

Truely an informative book,
This review is from: The Aromatherapy Bible: The Definitive Guide to Using Essential Oils (Paperback)
Don't be fooled by the fact that this book is small in size, if you have an interest in aromatherapy or simply want to add to your knowledge of it, this is the perfect book. When I got this book I read it cover to cover without ever once getting bored and when I was done I was ready to try everything in it. The author not only covers how the oils effect the body, but the intensity levels with wich oils are stonger in smell, wich will last longer on the skin and warnings as to wich ones should not be used and why. The book is 400 pages long, illustrated on glossy paper with great photos. It includes recipes for making massage oils, fragrances for the skin, oils to use durring meditation, how to meditate, how to give a massage, wich oils to use in baths, lotions, in daily skin care and its all very easy to follow. I suggest this book to anyone who has even the slightest interest in essential oils. You wont be dissapointed.

Awesome book with lots of information and recipes,

This book attempts to cover so many different issues that some are barely touched upon and mainly ignite your interest to look elsewhere for more information. For example it mentions essential oil evaporation rates and odor intensities which is rather useful to know when creating your own blends, but it only offers this information for 12 essential oils. So if you'd like to know more, you'll have to look elsewhere for such information.
On the other hand, there are tons of recipes for adults, for babies and for elderly people; for skin care, for alleviating different mental, emotional and physical health problems, etc. There are suggestions for different ways of applying essential oils - from inhaling, to adding drops in a bath water, using in in massage. The book goes even beyond discussing merely the properties and applications of different essential oils and offers helpful tips and techniques for meditation, stress relief, how to perform different kinds of massage, etc. At the end of the book is a Directory of Essential Oils, where the properties of about 40 - 50 essential oils are described.

There are more comprehensive guides out there....,

This review is from: The Aromatherapy Bible: The Definitive Guide to Using Essential Oils (Paperback)
I was looking for a book with more in depth information on the use of essential oils and more recipes, but this is more of a basic guide to general information on oils. It does have a nice section on the background of some of the popular oils and where they come from, but unless you are very new to essential oils, i'd go with a more comprehensive guide. This book did not fulfill my expectations.

A wonderful little book that I couldn't put down till the last page. Most of the essential oils used are common and relatively inexpensive. Tips for oil and massage use for all age ranges, first aid tips, meditations. All all-purpose, must-have for those just getting started and for the serious minded in using essential oils and massage for health and wellbeing.

"bible" is VERY misleading for this book,
This review is from: The Aromatherapy Bible: The Definitive Guide to Using Essential Oils (Paperback)
This is a nice book, small in size. Would be good to give as a gift. It is not a bible. It doesn't go into great detail about anything. It gives some nice recipes etc. Doesn't explain properties of oils.

The book is informative. It doesn't cover a lot of the essential oils that I wanted to know about, but it gives good detail to the ones included.

Absolutely indispensible. I use it daily as a reference along with my Young Living essential oils. My energy level has increased greatly since following the suggestions in this book. I can only imagine that my immune system has to be stronger also! Love this book.

I purchased several books at the same time I purchased this title. This reference manual is by far the best. Sections are arranged in the manner that a normal person would use them. Oil descriptions are in-depth and arranged by type rather than alphabetical (great idea!). I also appreciate that the information is straight forward, without too much environmental, religious, or overly personal commentary. This one's a keeper and I will seek out other titles by the author.

the guide,

As the title of the book implies it is a guide. It doesn't imply it is the be all and end all in aromatherapy information. It gives a great overall understanding and a wonderfully basic place to begin one's start into Aromatherapy. I found the book to be of invaluable information. In fact, this book is one of my text books for a college level aromatherapy course I am taking. Combined with Valerie Cooksley's Aromatherapy: Soothing remedies to restore, rejuvenate and heal, it is a great asset to any Aromatherapy library.
