5.0 out of 5 stars Heaps of easy recipes to take away the guess work.
If you are a beginner you will learn how to use essential oils safley, this is a must for any responsible Aromatherapy publication. It also has a great section on the body systems eg: Digestive systems and relevant oils. You can cross refrence this with the Directory of 60 Essential oils. I can see how many people like this book, but. . . EVERY recipe in this book uses 3 essential oils. This makes me suspicious and bothers me on many levels. We all know that there are many excellent 2 oil blends, but not one is listed in this book. If you are a beginner you will learn how to use essential oils safley, this is a must for any responsible Aromatherapy publication. It also has a great section on the body systems eg: Digestive systems and relevant oils. You can cross refrence this with the Directory of 60 Essential oils. My favourite part is part three, here you can find over 800 recipes for anything from Footcramp to Procrastination. This isn't just invaluable to the beginner, sometimes it can be hard to decide which oils to choose when any of maybe ten or more will do, and what the ratio should be for a blend. I keep going back to this book to take the guess work out of all of my aromatherapy blending.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies:over 800 Recipes for Everyd, February 26, 2000
This review is from: Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies (Thorsons Aromatherapy Series) (Paperback)
Beginners rush order this book. I just received my 5th books on this subject and found this book by far the best of all of them. Franzesca writes for the beginner and for those who have years in the field. I especially like the way she explains mixing oils. For example other books use per cents and ml but Franzesca goes further and gives drop amounts. This is very helpful for the novice. This is a book you will continually refer back to. Thank Franzesca.

I can see how many people like this book, but. . . EVERY recipe in this book uses 3 essential oils. This makes me suspicious and bothers me on many levels. We all know that there are many excellent 2 oil blends, but not one is listed in this book. I've got 17 different oils and can only make a few of the recipes--And there are no suggestions if you're lacking one of the oils. For certain ailments, there may be 3 different recipes and there is no listing of the specific benefits of one over another. There is no "blends well with" info. Information is vague compared to other sources. As an example one recipe (I'm listing only the ingedients) says to mix Clary Sage, Ylang-Ylang and Cedarwood for emotion. Hmmm, Would that be good for depression, anxiety, self-confidence, love or what? In all fairness, this book does have recipes for these listed ailments. But it's almost like a bunch of the recipes were just thrown so they could say "Over 800 recipes for everyday use".

I agree that it is nice to have the number of drops as opposed to percentages, but that's just not enough for me. If you just want a ton of recipes and you've got many different essential oils, this may be the book for you. Otherwise, you'll probably want to look somewhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's great, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies (Thorsons Aromatherapy Series) (Paperback)
I've been reading a lot about using aromatherapy and essential oils. I've also read about herbs and their benifits. Out of all the books I've aquired, this one is always in arms length. I use this book all the time and refer to it at least once a day. I like how she explains various tecniques on how to use the oils, along with a instruction of how to give good massages. She has easy to use recipies that are not only easy to make, but fun. There are sections just for men and sections for women, including a section primarily on pregnancy. She breaks down each oil, telling what uses it has and how it affects certain areas of the body. This is all around a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful and easy to read., January 2, 1999
This review is from: Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies (Thorsons Aromatherapy Series) (Paperback)
After studying aromatherapy for about a year, I decided to expand my library on the subject. On receiving this book and several other similar titles, it soon became clear to me that this was the one to have. Franzesca writes in a way that even a novice like myself can understand. I now find myself referring to this book almost daily.

Of the many superb books that I have and use on Essential oils, this is the one I reach for the most. It's thorough, consise and accurate accounts of each oil give me a qick and profound reminder of the information I need for professional use or at home. I adore this book and always recommend it to my students and customers for beginners or advanced levels. Whether it's the first or last book you'll buy on Aromatherapy I know it will be a valuable manuscript for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential working book, December 10, 2001

This review is from: Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies (Thorsons Aromatherapy Series) (Paperback)
This book, along with Julia Lawless' The Complete Illustrated Guide to Aromatherapy has become so essential in my every day work, both professional and home.

It is easy to follow and you can find a remedy or synergy for just about any complaint. It lists the most useful oils and gives alternatives where possible. The recipes are also great with plenty of alternatives (its not practical to have every oil on hand.)

The section on holiday and first aid is great - this book and my oils go everywhere with me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very educational., September 13, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies (Thorsons Aromatherapy Series) (Paperback)
I am very new to the world of aromatherapy. I thought this book would give me more information on the how the essentials oils would work with each other. I also was looking for more information on how to make my own beauty products. This book gave a lot of recipes but dealing more with medical disorders. I was surprised that all of the recipes only had 3 ingredients. For some of the natural products that I have purchases, most have a lot more than 3 ingredients and I know good results can be obtain from only 2 ingredients as well. I rated this book a 3 because it had a lot of recipes not because of the additional content in the book. This book was somewhat helpful on some of the essential oil history (which I had already known). For the most part, the book did not meet my expectations.

As the onwer of giftsforthesoul.com, this book has been a great inspiration to me. Franzesca has explained the uses of the essential oils so clearly ans percisley. She gives the reader the inspiration to go out and pick up a few bottles of some of their favorite essential oils and play with them! This book has opened the doors to the healing power of arometherapy, for any of us to learn about. The recipes (hundreds to choose from) and instruction are very good. Enjoy.
