Book Description

September 1, 1999
A comprehensive guide to cosmetics and body-care products you can make yourself with essential oils that are healthier and less expensive than their commercially made equivalents.

• Over 100 simple and inexpensive recipes.

• In addition to providing general skin and hair care, formulas treat acne, sunburn, cellulite, wrinkles, and many other conditions.

Now anyone can take personal control of the beauty and cosmetic products they use. This complete guide to aromatherapy for hair and skin care explains how to create cosmetics that are custom-made, natural, vibrant, and healthy--and that avoid the preservatives and additives of commercial products. More than 100 recipes provide an endless variety of formulas and fragrances to choose from.

Remarkably easy and inexpensive to prepare, these recipes for shampoos and rinses, bath and massage oils, astringents and aftershaves, cleansers, masks, and lotions require only a few basic ingredients that are all easily obtained. From a facial steam bath of juniper, lemon, and cypress to a tanning lotion of witch hazel, bergamot, and lavender or a stimulating massage oil of rosewood, geranium, and orange, aromatherapy cosmetics can be made to individual specifications and used as charming personalized gifts. Keller explains how to identify the purest oils and tells which are naturally suited to specific hair and skin types. He also describes their individual healing properties so that people can use and combine their favorite scents with confidence.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"It is one of the few books available that focuses only on the cosmetic application of essential oils. This is a wonderfully useful little book. Keller gives a good foundation of information about basic ingredients, the physiology of the skin and hair and about the best cosmetic essential oils. Many formulas are given including an entire chapter on natural perfumes. This book is a must for anyone who is professionally using essential oils for skin care."
(Scentsitivity )

"A well-written book that provides good background information and evidence on why we should revert to making our own skin care products."
(Aromatherapy Quarterly )

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, September 17, 2000

This is one of the best overall books I read on Essential Oil and their uses. With more recipes that you can shake a floppy disk at. I recommend this book to anyone who is or would like to craft(make) there own natural beauty care items and perfumes. This book contains a good foundation aromatheray uses of the EO and EO blends. It eazy to understand for the beginner. Yet, I belive it is a book you will use as a referance for years to come. I know I will.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one book, make it this one!, February 25, 2002

This book is wonderfully complete. Mr. Keller gives both the "big picture" as well as the necessary details.

For beginners, there are more recipes than you could hope for - and not just variations of a few basic recipes. He truly delivers with a rich collection of beauty, hair and skin care recipes.

For those a little more daring, the book provides a nice balance of background and theory. I feel confident experimenting with my own recipes now, and can knowledgably create the product I intend. (As opposed to wasting money on lots of surprises and/or disappointments.)

I only wish I'd found this book before the last half dozen or so books I purchased on natural cosmetics and essential oils.

This review is from: Aromatherapy Handbook for Beauty, Hair, and Skin Care (Paperback)
I ordered this book hoping to find more information and different recipes for skin and hair care. I was somewhat disappointed with the content of the book, as the explanations weren't terribly detailed. I also found the measurements difficult, because many of the recipes call for quantities to be in grams instead of teaspoons or tablespoons, etc. I wound up returning it after a couple of days. It just wasn't what I was looking for at all.
