5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta Have It
This is not a technique book nor is it a typical pattern book, it is a recipe book, all the ingredients are given and you are assumed to have the skills.

This is a book I would recommend to anyone who has at least one year of quilting under their belt. Sure a beginner can handle it but it isn't geared to the fresh start.

One of the great advantages the book offers...

2.0 out of 5 stars A must for any quilter!
This is my second time to purchase this terrific reference book. I have loaned it out so many times that I can remember where my original copy is!! The rotary cutting directions are clear and accurate.

One of the great advantages the book offers is a color representation of the pattern and then in the recipe area you see the block in gray scale. To view a block without color gives you the freedom to choose if you want to work in monochromatic or several colors, your minds eye isn't limited to a picture provided by the author. There is so much to be learned letting your own natural choices free to assign the colors.

My friendship quilting group uses this book as well as the follow up book "Around the Block Again" as a primer for selecting different swap-a-block patterns, or for charity blocks. It is ideal where each member can choose their favorite pattern in a block size that others can use as well.

Buy this book and you will have YEARS of joy from all the possibilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for any quilting library!, March 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Around the Block with Judy Hopkins: 200 Rotary-Cut Blocks in 6 Sizes (Paperback)
Around the Block is one of the first reference books I bought when I began quilting four years ago. I have found it to be percise and accurate with its easy to follow directions. The book takes all the guess work out of dimentions as it offers instruction for several finished block sizes. My copy is dog eared and my most favorite reference book. Thank you Judy Hopkins!

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate quilt block book!!!, September 24, 2003

I have just started quilting this year. I love traditional blocks but the blocks I find in my favorite books are usually the wrong size from what I want. I checked out a book from my library on "drafting" my own blocks but I just can't do it.
Well, I just got this book from my library and I will own it shortly because this is one of the best quilt block books I have ever seen and I can have the blocks any size I want without the mind boggling drafting.
I will own the next book and the next book and the next book..... this Judy Hopkins puts out.
I could not ask for more.
I am a very happy quilter!!! :)

The most wonderful thing about this book is that it offers instructions to do the many blocks in several different sizes. No math involved! Lots of variety and good photos. Definately a must for piece lovers.!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful "cookbook" of block patterns, January 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Around the Block with Judy Hopkins: 200 Rotary-Cut Blocks in 6 Sizes (Paperback)
I think this book is particularly useful for people who like to make sampler quilts. Rotary-cutting directions for all 200 blocks are listed in 4-5 different sizes. I'm using the patterns now to make a row-by-row quilt in which the blocks contained in each row are a different size. I highly recommend this book!

I love this book, and have quickly found myself unable to live without it. It breaks the patterns down into very easy to understand lists of rotary-cut pieces. It's easy to multiply the number of shapes in the base pattern to reach the total numbers needed for the entire quilt.

Having recently started patchwork and quilting this book was recommended by my tutor. I have found it to be helpful particularly in choosing blocks that are for all abilities and also the diagrams for piecing order, cutting techniques and planning a quilt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of work went into writing this book - It is terrific for quilters, November 30, 2008
This review is from: Around the Block with Judy Hopkins: 200 Rotary-Cut Blocks in 6 Sizes (Paperback)
It always amazes me when I see a book as beautiful as this one how the author put all the material together.

I am a beginning quilter and hope to continue as the years pass.

Judy Hopkins has written several books that I would enjoy owning and was very pleased to have this one in my possession.

The colors are bright on the many quilts she shows you can make and the directions very clear.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, a new quilter or someone who has been quilting for years.

Thank you, Judy Hopkins and Amazon and the person who listed this book on Amazon for letting me have the chance to purchase such a beautiful book.

This is the book all quilters must have. It has a variety of block designs and gives you cutting directions for different block sizes. As a quilt teachers it has saved me time in increasing and reducing block sizes. I love this book for the beginner and the more experience quilter.
