Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2–This newly illustrated edition of a 1986 title introduces the concept of air, its presence in our world, and its importance to the environment. The text describes several interesting facts, clearly explaining ideas and incorporating experiments that are easy to reproduce at home or in the classroom. The appealing artwork supports the narrative and takes readers on a journey through the natural world. Produced in pen and warm, earthy watercolors, the pictures are filled with amusing details. Additional, easy-to-replicate activities are appended. This book serves as a wonderful starting point for educators beginning a unit on an integral part of our ecosystem and would be an asset to any science collection.–Hope Marie Cook, Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic

This is a good book to use during any study on air. It provides some easy hands-on experiments with good visual pictures to illustrate the properties of air. Good choice for any science class with Kindergarten or First Grade students.

I can't speak highly enough of the "Let's Read and Find Out Series." My two and four year old boys love to read them. Just enough info to be interesting and instructive for two, three and four year olds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winning title in the series, September 10, 2011

This educational book about air captures one's imagination right from the first full spread illustration (on two pages) featuring children happily playing in a bounce house! It put a smile on my 6.5-year-old's face and she was eager to read what the book was about. John O'Brien's vivid color illustrations make this an immensely enjoyable book that tackles the topic of air -Where is it found? How do you know it's there? How much does it weigh?

There are simple experiments that can be used in discovering air, requiring ingredients that can be easily found in one's home. Curious young minds will also discover what the difference is between fish and humans when it comes to breathing underwater. There is a bonus section at the end of the book that provides more experiments about air. I highly recommend this book to any parent or teacher who'd like to teach basic science concepts to children.
