Very easy set up and within four, that's 4 hours, I caught my first mole with this trap.

Have spent lots of time and money on other products, wish we had gone straight to this one.
Amy
If you don't step on it squarely, the trap will not be set correctly in the mole tunnel.

I bought this product about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I have been using everything imaginable to get rid of these mole varmits, from homemade solutions to every trap available, also fake worms, bombs, you name it. I finally found something that really really works. I have caught 4 in the last week. My MIchigan soil is rock hard clay in the front yard, which makes it more difficult, but I have found that using thin wood pieces(like shims) under the braces help support it from tripping accidently and secure the trap in the ground for my soil. I am estatic, I have lost most of my front yard and some of the other parts to these critters and since they give birth in April, the little ones won't be repeating what mama did. If you can purchase these, I highly recommend them. They are visable to see from the house when they are tripped. Once they are triggered, it is very easy to release the dead mole and start over. VICTORY at last!!!!!

The devices are well built out of nice rust free steel components, but that is about all I can say good about them. We purchased four of these units as we have a nice little mole population in our yard making several mole hills everywhere each day. We followed the instructions and have yet to catch even a SINGLE mole after 3 months of using. We have moved followed instructions and moved them around several times. We are not sure where we go from here. After we researched the product more on youtube and viewed videos about this product it seems that these devices are better suited in areas of the country where the moles do not burrow very far underground (what I like to call close to surface moles), these are moles where you can actually see the trail of the mole from one mole hill to the other, the trail kind of protrudes a little from underneath the grass upwards. Our moles in the Pacific NW and specifically in our our yard actually burrow much deeper and therefore these moles do not leave any signs of protruding trails from one mole hill to the other and this is why these devices in my opinion do not work that well for us as we can not seem to locate the tunnel and place the trap accordingly. Not sure what to do with these mole traps now other than recycle them for scrap metal or I guess I could clean them up and try and resell them as "used" to someone in an area of the country that can actually use them

I have used this trap as well as the slightly more expensive ($4 as of this writing) Wire Tek trap. Both traps look very similar and work similarly. The reason I cannot give this trap 5 stars is because of my previous experience with the Wire Tek. When I use it I simply push it into the ground and step on it and it's set. This trap I'm reviewing was not as easy. After pushing it into the ground, I would step on it and many times the trap would not set, or it would appear to be set and then would pop up as I walked away. This happened many, many times and although eventually I would get it set, and catch my mole, it was just more difficult than the other brand. I do not know why, but I assume it's the mechanism used to trip the trap? I will say that based on my research and my experience you cannot go wrong with these types of traps. They are so simple to use, and they never fail to catch those menacing moles!

In case someone is reading this and is not sure what to do, I will explain, although it really is very simple. Step 1, smash down all of the trails. The better job you do, the easier your next step will be. Step 2, after a few hours, or the following day, find the new/fresh trails. Step 3, push the points of the trap into the trail so that both points are IN the trail...do not straddle it. Step 4, push down on the trap with your foot. Let the hunting begin!

We've struggled with moles in our 1-acre suburban yard for over a year. They have really done a number on our beautiful expanse of a lawn. I previously tried the standard Cinch mole traps, but without success... and it takes digging down into a run, or enlarging one of the mounds/holes, to effectively set the Cinch traps, which causes even more damage. In desperation, because I was dreading coming back in a few weeks from vacation and seeing my lawn look like a WWI battlefield complete with trench lines, I picked up a couple of these based upon a friend's recommendation. These are a VERY sturdy trap, well-designed and engineered, and robustly manufactured here in the US. I expect them to last longer than I do! Certainly much more substantial than the flimsy Cinch traps. (Not to pick on the Cinch traps, but they aren't very sensitive and I have to wonder if many a mole, or many times for the same moles, has wandered over them without setting them off. Once, since I've owned them, has a Cinch trap been sprung... but no mole or sign of a mole.)

I recommend viewing the manufacturer's YouTube video, at [...], to get some more hints about how to set this trap. It's important that you do three things to maximize success: find an active run, slightly compress the run before you set the trap immediately above the area you squashed, and ensure the trigger plate is directly above the run and parallel to the ground (it has a tendency to shift to one side if you are not careful when you press down on the trap with your foot to drive it into the ground and set it).
