The DVD set for Phil Kline: Around the World in a Daze is one of the most elegant sets -both physically and aurally for a modern music composer. Kline's music takes full advantage of the surround sound capability of these discs. There are so many things to like about Kline's music: his references to early and classical music, his extreme playfulness and his exceptional ability to make bold experimental sounds in an accessible framework.

I recently heard this on a surround system and thought it was extraordinary. The sections are quite varied, and there were some amazing moments unlike anything I'd ever heard. Overall - wonderful. (And I think it would sound pretty good in stereo too.)

This is an amazing collection of works, a real sonic treat. But it's not just ear candy, but is musically very sophisticated and varied. You can tell how carefully all the works were created and the craft put into the recording and mixing. And even the packaging is compelling. Highly recommended.

The music here is skillfully assembled and amazingly effective. The use of surround sound is exemplary. Overall, it's one of the most interesting records in my collection.

Irritated enough, by writing my first review ever, I would really like to understand how some of us could be so lucky and gifted to hear and praise the music in a collection of lengthy, annoying and scratchy "compositions" on this disc. Why am I not "sitting immersed and seduced listening to this ethereal, remarkable and overwhelming, playful and elegant, soaring and swirling, weird madrigal and cool presentation, waiting for massive climax" like other reviewers, pros and alike?
Is there anybody out there brave enough to say the simple truth - the composition is noise, just pure modulated noise!
I have learned my lesson: never again buy "music" without previewing it, and never rely only to the wonderful reviews.
By the way, this is the first disc I have ever had to ditch in a trashcan, because it occupied too much space with its, otherwise, truly nice package.
Don't be mistaken - one star is there only because you can not select zero and it is dedicated to the package alone.
