This classsic sailing narrative tells the story of Eric Hiscock and his wife, Susan, who in 1952 set out from Yarmouth, England, in their 30-foot sailing yacht Wanderer III. Just under three years later they arrived back at Yarmouth, having circled the globe by the way of the West Indies, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Ascension, and the Azores, with many other ports of call in route.

About the Author
The late Eric Hiscock bought his first boat in 1934 and wrote about his sailing experiences from that point onwards. He was born in 1908 in Southhampton and in 1941 he married Susan who became his sole crew on the many thousands of miles sailed by successive Wanderers.
Eric and Susan lived aboard Wanderer V and when not cruising were based in the beautiful 'Bay of Islands' on the north eastern coast of New Zealand. They gained an international reputation as adventuresome and popular cruising folk and apart from a string of successful sailing books and articles, lectured widely. Sailors around the world have followed Eric's practical advice based on many lessons learned the hard way--at sea. In 1984 both Eric and Susan were made MBEs for services to ocean sailing. Eric Hiscock died in 1986. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I've bought every book Eric Hiscock ever wrote, and read them all twice, Of all the sailing book's I have bought, his are the best. I can only say it must have been Eric's way with word's,But all the time I was reading, I really thought I was there with them both,It was a strange feeling when I had finished a book, I felt as though something was missing out of my life. We lost a great writer when he died. Has anyone out there, whose read Hiscock, Come across as good a writer, I'd like to know about them please! For people who have'nt read his book's, I strongly reccommend them all.

I am new to sailing and I found the narrative both educational and enjoyable. His anecdotes from 1952 transport the reader to a time before GPS and before the modern sailboat. His detail with regard to the construction of the boat and the payoff in bad weather is truly English(the writing is old). I cannot wait until my sailing adventures take me to some of the same exotic locations that he and his wife enjoyed over 50 years ago.
