3.0 out of 5 stars not a great re-release
I am not rating the original album, but the re-release from 2005.
The 3 bonus tracks do not make worth purchasing this CD since 2 of the "remixes" are already available on the album "Thalia's Hits Remixed" (2003) and the "Arrasando (version banda)" is simply taken from the album "Con Banda: Grandes Exitos" (2001). I was hoping to find in this CD the actual "Version...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thalia es la reina del RITMO LATINO, June 5, 2000
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must For Latin/a Fans!, June 14, 2000
By
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
Already established in Latin America, Asia and Southern Europe, Thalia is now about to conquer the USA with her latest album "Arrasando"!
The pretty entertainer with the pleasant and jolly voice is produced by no less a person than Emilio Estefan (Miami Sound Machine, husband and discoverer of Gloria Estefan, producer of artists such as Ricky Martin,Shakira, Jennifer Lopez etc.) Compared to her 1997 release "Amor a la Mexicana" "Arrasando" also contains the typical Salsa ingredients, that greatly underline the "fire" of the sympathetic Mexican singer, but does, all in all, sound a little more "international". The album covers a broad range of musical styles from dance to rap, also containing a couple ballads. Most of the songs are contributed by the artist herself!
Her first single release "Entre El Mar Y Una Estrella" (engl. "Between the sea and a star"), a beautiful mid-tempo ballad, dedicated to Thalia's deceased friend, made it to the top of Billboard's latin charts and promises to become a huge hit everywhere else, if released!
Altogether "Arrasando" is a very vicacious album and contains a little something for every taste!

And for everyone who might be interested in my personal opinion as a fan:
AWESOME! Thalia's best album so far, although you just gotta love all her albums! I would be very glad to see her expand her worldwide potential to become totally continental!

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Album You'd Best Not Walk Past..., May 28, 2003
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
I have to let you know, I bought this album back in September 2002 after becoming a fan after buying 2002's THALIA and 1997's AMOR A LA MEXICANA; along with Alanis's UNDER RUG SWEPT, the 3 most listened to CDs of that year.

However, after giving this album a quick run-through, I quickly decided it was chock-full of filler except for the lead-in four tracks. Something made me pick this CD back up in March and all of a sudden QUIERO AMARTE jumped out at me! I loved the song! It was like a new single for me, and SUERTE EN MI I began to appreciate very much as well.

ENTRE EL MAR Y UNA ESTRELLA-A soaring ballad with beautiful lyrics. Just one big heaping spoonful of beauty. Check out the video. The video too is beautiful.

REGRESA A MI-A good danceable ballad. Worth listening to definitely during each listen of the CD. She wrote this one.

REENCARNACION-Excellent dance record. Any remixes of this would surely make you hit the floor. Haunting lyrics. She wrote this too, probably about either her father or Alfredo Diaz.

ARRASANDO-An excellent party record about "sweeping" our way into the new millenium carrying the ideas and inspiration of some of our last millenium's greatest people, including Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. No way you can skip this song when listening to the disc.

NO HAY QUE LLORAR-No need to listen to this track. Not very good at all. A definite skipper for this listener.

QUIERO AMARTE-A cool rap/hip-poppy song on the disc. Probably the most addictive track on the disc. Just such a cool song.

SUERTE EN MI/LUCKY GIRL-What a fast song! Her voice is amazing on this track! A must-listen! You can tell she really had fun with this one, her spanish cover of Gloria Estefan's 1998 album track LUCKY GIRL.

MENTA Y CANELA-An interesting, pleasant, sexy song. Nice to listen to. Good piece of ear candy. She wrote this one.

TUMBA LA CASA-This one will definitely knock your house if you blast in on your stereo. Comparable to the title track in style and presentation. Great track!

PATA PATA-An interesting cover of a Brazilian classic. Really cute song.

SIEMPRE HAY CARINO-A nice slow-moving song on the disc. Quite a pleasant song.

ROSALINDA-Another pleasant song, also the theme to Thalia's telenovela of the same. A great conclusion to the disc, though the 2001 version on her banda remixes album is far better.

All in all, a great disc from Thalia you should pick up, especially if you are becoming really interested in her. Though not as good as 1997's AMOR A LA MEXICANA or 2002's THALIA, it is still up there with them as well as 1995's EN EXTASIS and her early 90's rock anthems.

By the way, let's keep our fingers crossed she isn't self-titling her 2003 crossover CD too! With 1990's THALIA and 2002's THALIA, what is doing, playing a game with our heads...self-titling an album for the third time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spanish triumph, September 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
I don't speak Spanish, so I don't have any idea of what she's singing about, but I don't think its necessary to know the language to enjoy the music. Thalia is in great form with "Arrasando" an upbeat album that sets itself in a latin/pop setting. Opening the album is "Entre El Mar y Una Estrella" a beautiful ballad that certainly is an album opener. The followign tracks "Regresa a Mi" and "Reencarnacion" are more dancfloor type songs although uses spanish lyrics. "Arrasando" the album's title track and definitely one of the album's hottest and funkiest songs blends pop, slight r&b, rap and latino vibes, after one listen you'll wanna play it over again and shanke your bon bon in no time. "No Hay que llorar" is another ballad which I don't particularly like, but it may be a track people judge differently. Tracks 6 - 10 are all upbeat and dance tracks, yet all differ. Out of those five I feel track 8 ("Menta y Canela") is the best. "Siempre Hay Corino" took me by surprise, at first its a ballad, a goregeous one, and then it breaks to an upbeat dance song. The best track on the album, finishes the Cd off, the beautiful "Rosalinda", whoch is pure spanish pop. Thalia is a great, underrated, talent who should have her voice heard, and from this I think she will

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD by a great Latin songstress!, July 30, 2000
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
Ever since she released Amor A La Mexicana, Thalia has evolved through time. Her sound has become more exquisite and sophisticated and her voice has matured. Arrasando establishes Thalia as one of the best Latin singers of our time. Thalia and Emilio Estefan have teamed up again. The album is a mixture of pop and salsa, and the sound is incredible. My favorite songs are "Reencarnacion," "Tumba La Casa" and "Rosalinda." Thalia has never been taken seriously as an artist, but she has proven that she does indeed have talent and staying power. In fact, she is planning on crossing over to America. With flawless production and catchy tunes, Arrasando is a sound investment. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Innovative & Fresh Album, March 18, 2002

Theo (Athens, Greece) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
"Arrasando" by Thalia is an album that certainly doesn't get wasted by lingering over pre-tried or worn-out music motifs. Thalia wasn't trapped in producing a replica of her worlwide success album "Amor A La Mexicana". On the contrary, "Arrasando" was released 3 years afterwards and doesn't remind at all its predecessor, proving itself to be a mature step of the singer and not a rushed exploitation of the success achieved.
The singer, who happens to be the author of most of these songs, throws herself into new music genres. The Latin flavour is still present in many songs. However, contrary to "Amor A La Mexicana", in some songs it is absent and in others is combined with non-Latin music styles in a successful attempt to introduce new sounds that easily cross national barriers. The tracks of the album don't replicate one another and appeal to a larger variety of music tastes! Thus, they don't seem to be so unified, but I don't think this is a drawback to "Arrasando". However, one can feel the absence of a pure Latin cut such as "Piel Morena", "Por Amor" or "Mujer Latina".
Among the best songs of the album are: "Entre El Mar Y Una Estrella", an excellent mellodic ballad that carries the freshness of a summer night, "Reencarnacion" a dance pop track featuring Eastern tunes, "Arrasando" a high NRG mixture of mambo, rap and pop, and "Rosalinda" a great dance ballad!
Also pay attention to "Regresa A Mi", a pure Euro-dance, "Siempre Hay Carino" a warm & festive Latin cut, and "Tumba La Casa", merengue. They worth it! Check out track 5, Thalia's first attempt to sing a pure slow RnB in Spanish (some though may find it melancholic, the only track in the album that might justify such a characterization). Not that the rest tracks (mainly pop) aren't nice, have no doubt.
"Arrasando" had a double Latin Grammy nomination (2001): "Best Female Pop Vocal Album" & " "Best Recording Engineer for an Album"(won)! On the whole, it is a great work that worths a purchase! For me, "Amor A La Mexicana" is still Thalia's best owing to its Latin unification and unmatched rhythms, but "Arrasando" introduces new challenges to Thalia, who is just one step before her crossover this year!! I keep a star back for what Thalia has in hand and still hasn't shown us, just to make us desire her music more...!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Let's Dance!, September 29, 2000
This review is from: Arrasando (Audio CD)
To say that Thalia is very-well known here is an understatement. Thalia is very popular in the Philippines as the reigning Queen of Telenovelas (dubbed in Filipino). She is known to literally stop traffic from 7pm to 7:30 pm as most people rush from work to their homes to watch her. Most, if not all telenovelas, such as Marimar, Maria del Barrio, Maria Mercedes and her most recent one, Rosalinda, has captured the hearts of many Filipinos. One cut in this CD is the theme song of Rosalinda, and this is enough reason for me to buy it. (Even my 2 year old daughter sings along though she does not speak Spanish!) This album has a samba-mambo-Latin flavor to it. The tempo of the songs are very upbeat and danceable! If there is just one Spanish album you wish to listen to, buy this. And it does not matter if we barely understand the lyrics, the tempo and the way Thalia sings helps the listener understand the mood of the songs.
