As other users mentioned, this router frequently drops connection for short periods of time. Online gaming is impossible with it.

I have also had huge connection problems getting it to connect to Windows 7. No problem with iOS and Vista devices, but several times a week I lose all connection to my desktop for about an hour. I have had several other routers with no connection problems to any of these devices. I also get wildly different speed test results on each device. Running speed tests on each device results in >10Mbps variances between devices. I can understand a difference from my phone, but my desktop and laptop should not see such a wide difference (especially when the desktop is giving .5 Mbps and the Laptop is giving 13+).

I can not stress how horrible this unit is, even if you only use it to surf the web the constant connection drop is annoying.

Update: I got around to replacing this modem/router with just a straight modem and a separate Belkin wifi router. I tested my desktop at 3 Mbps immediately before replacing and 28 Mbps after. Almost a 10x increase just by replacing this router. Smaller change on my laptop with it going from 14 Mbps to 25 Mbps. No connectivity issues with my Belkin router and all around satisfied once again with my internet connection.

Verified Purchase
Be advised that you are buying an orphan. Arris only provides support and firmware for the DG860 cable modem / wireless router to cable companies that then rent the box to the end user. I bought this to avoid renting from Time Warner so I am stuck with an unsupported box. The WiFi range is very poor for an N router and I was hoping a firmware upgrade would fix it but I am screwed. Don't waste your money.

I have Time Warner Signature Service with 50Mb downloads. The real world I get 48.9 Mb downloads and 5 Mb uploads with a hardwire connection to this modem. Now the wireless drops to around 19Mb and 4.5 Mb via a G connection at 30 feet away on my OLD dell Laptop (still very good).
Now, note this CON: if you are a FPS gamer, you will likely see random problems with this modem with your wireless and Wired connections. I think there is a firmware problem with this modem that will very briefly (in seconds) drop the connection. This is fine in surfing or App gaming on your smart phone, but is a HUGE problem with FPS. When milliseconds can cause instant death or worse the "connection lost" icon it will drive you mad. I first thought it was a problem with my Home RG11 cable wiring, but after three techs coming out to my site, and no problems found, the last tech said he has seen this problem constantly ONLY with TW Gamers. He suggested buying a dedicated Dual Channel Router and disconnecting the built in dual channel WiFi side of the cable modem-router. I bought and inexpensive single channel 300 Mb B00A3YN0Z0 this works great. It solved ALL my connection problems.

Works fine and well (Time Warner Cable Extreme 30mbps) when connected by a wired connection.

However, wireless is completely and utterly unreliable. Not only does it top out at about 15mbps, it is extremely inconsistent. The wireless randomly drops, has random periods of lag and inoperation. During one of these times, I took my laptop and placed it right next to the router, and it still wouldn't work properly. But then I connected an ethernet cable and it was fine.

Bottom line, don't use this for wireless.

I just switched from DSL to Time Warner Cable and they use this modem/router combination with their Extreme Option of 30/5. This router operates worse than my DSL. I can't get any wifi on the second floor of my house or even on the stairs. Right in front of the modem, it drops connections repeatedly. I had to switch back to the slower than ever DSL. My boys need gaming and have ipads and computers. I work from home and need reliable wifi throughout this house. This is probably fine just as a modem but definitely not as both a router and a modem.

I got this modem from Time Warner Cable when I upgraded to the next highest speed package (*Only 10 more a month and worth every penny to go up to 30mbps)!

I first tested the modem speed on my DIRECT connected Desktop computer. It was downloading at 36 Mbps with an upload of 7.75 Mbps.

I have a Cisco Wireless router that I just got for Christmas that I love. So before I sent it back for a refund, I thought that I would test the WIRELESS speed of the Cisco E4200 Wireless Router and then compare it to the WIRELESS connection of the Arris Wireless speeds...

The Cisco was downloading at 29.41 Mbps and uploading at 7.44 Mbps
The Arris (wireless) downloading at 29.85 Mbps and uploading at 7.72 Mbps

I didn't have to pay for the Arris Wireless router (provided through Time Warner Company - highly recommend TWC as well!)
I DID pay for my state of the art, latest N router Cisco E4200 ($102.99)

I will say that the only downside to the Arris is that it is 4"x8" and in comparison to my Cisco E4200 it looks bulky and not streamlined!! But, still 5 stars!

Sorry for the technical data, but great comparison!

Greg
