I don't usually bother writing reviews of products, but I have to say that these Arriva headphones are a smart answer to a real problem. I've been exercising with an MP3 player for almost a decade, and during that time I've long thought that the "ultimate" arrangement would be a very, very small player (small enough that it required no carrying case of its own) paired somehow to headphones that do not leave long wires dangling. The Arriva cordless headphones, in combination with a Shuffle, meets those requirements perfectly.

Yes, it takes a bit of fussing to get the headphones to sit properly in your ear -- I spent 15-20 minutes gently bending the thick wires that support the unit at the back of the head and that run over the top of the ears to the iPod-type earbuds. But once done -- and after a couple days of use -- I'm thrilled. The setup works well. The earbuds stay in my ear, even during long runs, after working in the yard, stretching, and other physical activity that would have dislodged most of the other earphones I've used.

The sound is actually better (in my opinion) than most of the headphones I've owned, save a set of Bose in-ear buds, but the Bose headphones do not work for me while exercising, and I found myself constantly stuffing them back into my ear before giving up on using them when active. Part of the reason the sound is good, I think, is that you can position the buds in just the right place to direct the sound into your ear canel.

I also have to give credit to Arriva. The product arrived less than 48 hours after I ordered it, and the carrying case is a nice touch.

Two thumbs up!

TWO WEEKS LATER:

I'm still raving about these headphones.

I use my Ipod shuffle running, biking, walking and skiing and... spend an awful time untangling the earpiece wires from pockets, sunglasses, etc.
I tried the Monster shuffle earphones; they are completely useless if you are moving; won't even stay in place if you walk slowly. I returned them to Apple store the next day and took the time to explain deficiency to store personnel.
So I was delighted to read about Arriva in NY Times and ordered it.
The Arriva is comfortable, stays in place with all activity, sound is ok for my ears.

Good and bad news: the first one delivered had faulty sound..unacceptable sound, and I thought Oh No, here comes a big hassle. But one e-mail, responded to in same day, acknowledged deficiency, replacement arrived 2 days later (just today) and seems fine.
Easy to adjust functions with the shuffle on back of neck and quickly you don't even know its there. No bluetooth, no extra batteries, no added complexity, just great creative design.

It's hard to put a lot of stock sometimes in reviews, because a lot of people use the product for only a day or two before sitting down to write a glowing review. One of my primary concerns with electronics, however, is will it last? I'm happy that for this product, I can answer with a resounding yes. I have had this product for almost a year, and I love it now more than ever. In fact, I love it so much I'm planning on buying another, just so I have a backup in case they stop making the old shuffles. It baffles me that more people haven't found this wonderful device, though I have referred more than a few. I do not drive, I go the gym almost every day, and I fly at least twice a month. I wear these when I walk, bike, workout, travel, or even around the house when I don't want to bother my husband with my music. It may be the best $35 I've ever spent. The buds don't always stay well seated in my ears, but frankly, no ear buds sit well in my ear, and at least these don't fall out and get tangled with stuff. I've scrunched them up to fit in all sorts of spaces, and sweated buckets on them (pardon my grossness), and still have yet to have any sort of problem with them. And just to underline one more time how great these are, this is the FIRST review I have EVER written. I've just never come across a product I've felt so compelled to sing praises for!

No more dangling wires. Superlight. You can wear them for hours and even forget you have them on once you turn them off. Very easy to operate. Perfect for listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Very good customer service.

I originally got these for running - it drove me nuts that my regular earbuds wouldn't stay in my ears. These are amazing - they fit really well and stay put. Now I use them for everything - I love listening to podcasts while doing chores around the house with them. The only downside - you do have to adjust the fit and it doesn't always stay adjusted. But once you get exactly the right orientation, it should be fine. In any case, these are totally worth it.

At first, the headset worked well, but as soon as I started sweating, things began to screw up. sweat will get into the shuffle and it will cause the shuffle to cut off. I went about 30 min on a full chage when it suddenly stopped working. I was able to dry it out, but the same problem happened again the next time. I tried the suggestion of tape between the headset and the shuffle and that gave me about an hour before it did it again. I turned it around so that the base was on the bottom and it still failed.
Bottom line: If you are going to use it during strenuous exercising, expect problems. If you are going to use it for normal activities, then it should be fine.
