A couple of other posters commented they were not happy that a chain holds the insert in the dropped position. I understand their confusion, but in reality, the lowering arm fully supports the lowered inset and I believe the chain is strictly a backup safety precaution.
The size and height of the table are terrific and will provide ample space for her to cut out her projects prior to sewing them; the folding legs are very sturdy and the videos on the Arrow website show how to properly lock them into place to prevent wobbling. As I ran my machine, there was no wobble, even at extreme sewing speed on several surfaces (hardwood, tile & carpeting).
It is fairly lightweight (about 34 pounds) and folds back easily for storage in a closet or under a bed.
I am exceptionally pleased with this table; in fact I might have to order another for myself!
Thank you Amazon for making this terrific table available!
Also, when I had my straight stitch machine on the table and dropped it down to sew level with the table my knees would hit the dropped part when I sat up to the table to sew. It is difficult to change from a dropped position to a level position fast. You have to completely remove the machines cords and I also removed the machine to make sure it didn't fall.
I would not recommend this to anyone wanting to use it for a sewing machine.
The only negative I am aware of is the hole in the table is routered around which leaves raw particle board edges a third of an inch or so below table level. When the platform is raised up, this leaves a rough groove around it which makes no sense to me. It would have been much better to have the hole smooth, so when the platform is raised, it would be all one level. I've also had a couple of fine fabrics snag on the rough indented surface while sewing.
But in spite of the oddity of the routered edge, I am happy with this purchase.
