I have a 7 year old that I "leaned into" for this one. I am glad we did, because he loves it. The tension is a touch too much for him right now, but he will grow into it. It's safe and fun for him to play with (under adult supervision). I rate it only a 4 because the directions stink. I'm not a bowhunter and know nothing about bows, but there were simplistic, unclear directions on the box. I had to have my brother in law help us get it set up. So, if you know a lot about Bows, no issues, if you don't, make sure you have someone around who does!

I bought this for my 7 year old son. He was interested in learning to shoot and was looking at the $30 "toy" bows you see at the store. I shot competitive archery in college and just could not stand the look and feel of these toys so I got online and did some searching. I found a bunch in the $100 dollar range that came with absolutely no accessories (not even a string). This one was priced just a little higher than the toys but looked more like the real thing so I thought I'd try it, but was still apprehensive. Well it was what I hoped it would be.This is a good starter bow that shoots and feels like the real thing. The metal riser has spots for attaching the sight and arrow rest that come with it AND a spot to attach a stabilizer bar in front. Since the riser is metal, I am assuming that you can even tap in holes for other accessories. I am left handed and this is right, so I could not test out the accuracy, but my son was able to get decent groups at around 15 feet after some coaching, so I am assuming it is fairly accurate. The arrows that is comes with are 26" and are decent. The arm guard is not great but works. Also the quiver comes pressed flat so that it takes some coordination to slide arrows in. But I consider the price to be great for just the bow, and these accessories are just freebies. The instructions are not that bad, only the site assembly was unclear, but you can figure it out. My only complaint is the the site pin comes loose and moves very easily, I fixed this by adding some Teflon tape to make the nuts fit a little tighter. The description is not clear but it does come with a string, however the string does not have a nock and the there is no finger guard in the set.

Generally, I am very satisfied with this purchase. My daughter is a lean, but tall child capable of drawing this bow with control and is thrilled with her gift. Both my six year-old daughter and seven year-old son also took an interest and while they were capable of a decent draw on the bow, it would take a little 'growing into the bow' to make it worthwhile for them.I have an amateur background in archery, but was disappointed in the directions supplied to assemble the bow. Thank goodness for my technically capable father! I tried to find a PDF file for this bow (or a basic rule/technique book) on the Internet, to no avail. Such paperwork would be a great addition, especially since it is targeted for youth. Other than that, I purchased additional arrows based on previous reviews (which I was glad I did) and will probably purchase a nicer quiver down the road, but overall, the items provided are doing the trick to help me determine the seriousness of her interest and my dedication to helping her become the best that she is capable of being!
