5.0 out of 5 stars Very good organic brown rice
If you are looking for an organic brown rice at an attractive price then this is the way to go. The flavor is very good and almost as good at as Lundberg and Rice Select brands but at a lower cost. For the price and flavor you can't go wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars smells like Basmati, but doesn't taste or look like it
When cooking, this rice smells very much like Basmati.

But I haven't noticed this rice tasting very much like Basmati. It tastes fine as a brown rice. It also doesn't elongate when cooked as white Basmati normally does. Maybe that's the nature of brown Basmati??

The second time I ordered a pack of six, the box it came in said it was Basmati,...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Decent Brown Basmati Rice, Especially At This Price!, January 12, 2011

I have used this Arrowhead Mills Brown Basmati rice to make some very tasty the stir fries and casseroles and have even used it successfully in jambalaya.

I like this rice a lot better than the Texmati brand rice. However, the Arrowhead Mills Brown Basmati Rice doesn't hold a candle to Lundberg Family Farms Brown Basmati rice, which I think is just about the best brown rice I have ever tried. But, considering that the Lundberg rice is two to three times more expensive that this rice, this Arrowhead Mills rice usually wins the spot in my pantry!

The second time I ordered a pack of six, the box it came in said it was Basmati, but the bags inside said it was long grain brown rice (a lower priced product, I think).

Amazon sent us a another box with no hassles and this time it was the right stuff.

I ordered this 6-pack of rice in November. It arrived with a "best by" date of January. Even though I'm sure I could eat it after its "best by" date, it's still too soon in my opinion, considering that I'm buying in bulk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good rice, great value, March 30, 2011

The first thing I will say is to disregard the directions on the bag! It took me about 3-4 batches before realizing the hard bits weren't the imperfections that are very prevalent in this brand. After upping the amount of water to 2.5-3 cups I haven't had a problem and the rice has been great.

I was excited about this product because brown basmati is a rare find in my area and is generally over $3 per lb. My only issue is that I do have to pick over it a little better before cooking if I don't want unattractive black bits of some part of the rice in my finished dish.

I do see the price had raised quite a bit since I purchased mine, but I would still buy more, especially with the deal offered with subscribe and save.

FWIW (For what its worth) 28 ounces times 6 is 168 ounces or 10.5 lbs or pounds.

i am ordering my 2nd 6 pack...i live alone and this with my 5.5 cup rice cooker (5.5 refers to the dry "white" rice cups of, per potential batch) works very well, one (1) package and 8 cups water makes a good quantity of rice...rice vinegar, low salt tamari, and organic extra virgin olive oil makes a decently palatable "gruel" i can consume frequently!

3.0 out of 5 stars Why did the price jump?, March 17, 2011
This review is from: Arrowhead Mills Brown Basmati Rice, 28-Ounce Packages (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
Yes, it is a good basmati rice, and being brown it is more healthful than that with the bran (nutritious exterior) removed: just what I'm looking for - BUT - yesterday the price went from right around $20.83 for one-time delivery, to []. That is very close to a 50% increase.

I cannot know whether this is Amazon's choice or whether the supplier suddenly raised its price. But in light of the earthquake in Japan, a huge jump in the price of rice has the smell of nasty profiteering, since there now will be a need for countries with rice supplies to replace damaged goods in a highly-populated, rice-intensive nation. You do what you want, but for me the answer is to not encourage this kind of price gouging. In other words, I'm not buying. I'll look elsewhere.

Amazon sent me the long grain rice instead of the basmati! I am not eager to go through the headache of returning it so I am stuck with this stuff. Plus, I lost $3.00 because the basmati is more expensive than the long grain.
