5.0 out of 5 stars One of our favorites
We are on a gluten- and casein-free diet, and we love this cereal. It has a nice flavor, and isn't over-sweetened. It does not have a too-strong buckwheat flavor. We bought lots. Try it with almond milk -- mmmmm.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unpleasant Aftertaste Ruins Cereal, February 13, 2009

I will have to respectfully disagree with some of the other reviewers here. As someone who cannot have gluten or casein, I often have difficulty finding good cereals. Unfortunately, Arrowhead Mills' Organic Maple Buckwheat Flakes continued that trend for me.

Some of my complaints about this cereal are common to many -- it gets soggy quickly, it's very expensive for its size, its nutritional value could be better. What really bothers me, however, is the almost metallic aftertaste it leaves. Although the ingredients say that it is made with natural maple flavoring, my refined New England maple tastes do not find this flavor to be anything familiar. It is very strong and very unpleasant. I found that I have had to brush my teeth immediately after eating each bowl just to get the aftertaste out of my mouth.

I usually like Arrowhead Mills products, but this one misses the mark for me. I'll finish the box, but I won't be buying it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crunchy and great taste, February 7, 2010

I really like this cereal, it stays crunchy in milk and is more filling than some other gluten free cereals I have tried. It has a hint of sweetness and smells like maple syrup but is not too sweet like some cereals. Buckwheat does have a unique taste, so go in open minded, some people who go gluten free seem to chase that elusive wheat like cereal instead of opening up their minds and taste buds to absolutely new adventures - leave expectations behind and enjoy a great tasty treat for breakfast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gluten Free Breakfast, July 29, 2007

This is a nice gluten free breakfast option. A little sweet so no added sugar is needed but not overly sweet. Crunchiness holds up well in milk.

This is one of my hubby's favorite breakfasts and just about the only dry cereal he really enjoys. There is no problem using all 6 boxes and on the subscription plan it is less than half the price in many health food stores. Note: the boxes have dropped to 10 oz. instead of 12 oz.
It is GF, has no MSG or related products, no aspartates.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent cereal choice, December 3, 2010

I'm newly diagnosed with celiac and have been struggling to find a cereal (I'm a cheerios in the morning kind of girl) that tastes good. Tried this cereal and I'm not needing to taste any others-just enough sweet and no rice on the teeth afterward feeling and no aftertaste to remind you that you're gluten free. This is a great cereal and tastes just as good with fruit on top as it does just plain with milk!

4.0 out of 5 stars The 10 Year-Old Likes Them, July 10, 2010

My 10 year-old son can't have gluten, which makes most breakfast cereals a no-go. However, he really likes these, and I'm okay with them as well. They are made with organic ingredients, are low in sugar, and provide daily fiber. They also stay really crunchy in milk. They aren't his number one favorite, hence only giving them 4 stars, but he does eat them happily when that is the available choice. Personally, I think they are rather cardboard-like and much prefer the Arrowhead Mills Sweetened Brown Rice Flakes which aren't quite as thick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Coated in GMO, November 12, 2011
This review is from: Arrowhead Mills Organic Maple Buckwheat Flakes, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This cereal is delicious. A heartier/healthier Frosted Corn Flakes...
Too bad it has to be sprayed with non-Organic Tocopherals. The box leads buyers to believe it's Organic cereal. But it is just the buckwheat that is organic. They use Tocopherols (a.k.a fancy word for GMO corn oils) to "preserve freshness". I'm not buying it. Kashi has also been coating their cereals with GMOs. Read the ingredients not the box.
Tasty cereal. But I don't like being misled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gluten Free Cereal, November 17, 2011
This review is from: Arrowhead Mills Organic Maple Buckwheat Flakes, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This gluten free cereal is pretty good. It has a maple taste, but it's not something I would eat every morning. Somehow this cereal didn't really taste that good to me, but you might like it, so that's why I gave it four stars.
