About the Author

Katherine Carlson graduated from the University of Victoria in 1997, attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction. She promptly moved to Los Angeles to study theater and joined the Screen Actors Guild shortly thereafter. Katherine has been involved in entertainment ever since. She currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.

More About the Author

Katherine Carlson grew up in a cold place; so cold, in fact, that the winter often felt like a foreign character in her life. Not a nemesis necessarily - more like a constant jab in the back.

"Weather can toughen you," she says. "Make you somewhat invincible to the smaller obstacles. At least that's what I told myself when waiting for my eyelashes to thaw after walking to school."

"Being an independent artist in the current corporate culture is a little like having frozen eyeballs. But if you have sufficient passion, you will find a way through. Writing is not even an option for me; it is simply something that has to be done. I have characters clamoring to be born - they live inside my soul, are part of my soul. And I have to give birth to them on the page, watch them grow, marvel at their unpredictability, share them with the world."

After leaving her central B.C. childhood home, she moved to Victoria and graduated from UVIC in 1997 attaining a BA with distinction (English/Sociology). A few months later she moved to Los Angeles to study theater, and became a member of the Screen Actor's Guild after landing a couple of small roles on television. She remained in Los Angeles to write an array of spec scripts and work on quirky indie films.

In 2011, she created SHADOW VALLEY PRESS and promptly released, ARROWS ACROSS EONS: Becoming Tina Turner, a spiritual account of how legendary entertainer Tina Turner indirectly shaped her childhood and the subsequent magic that followed.

Her next book, STORY GIRL, is a commercial fiction that chronicles the life and times of Tracy Johnston, a gal having a really bad reaction to her own life, and an even harder time figuring out 21st century womanhood..

Arrows Across Eons: Becoming Tina Turner
An Interview with Katherine Carlson
By Barbara Bullock

Katherine Carlson, the author of Arrows Across Eons: Becoming Tina Turner does not believe in coincidences - nor should she. With the title Arrows Across Eons: Becoming Tina Turner the book might first be understood as merely a story of a Tina Turner fan writing about her experiences as an admirer of the Queen of Rock and Roll. Indeed, one sees Katherine witnessing Tina live on stage, collecting important memorabilia and records as well as plastering her room with posters.

At a first glance, Katherine might not necessarily appear much differently from many teenagers. However, soon fascinating similarities between Katherine and Tina, who grew up as Anna Mae, appear. Katherine was raised in the forests of Canada side by side with Native American heritage - similar to little Anna Mae, whose mother had half Cherokee half Navajo heritage living in the backwaters of Tennessee. Both girls turned to nature and spirituality especially in difficult times of their lives and both probably knew deep down inside that they were destined for something bigger than a mundane life in the countryside. One soon starts to understand the similarities between the two women and comes to understand that Tina Turner is not only one of the greatest and electrifying performers of all times and Katherine a simple fan listening to her music and finding an idol in her. After all, the woman behind Tina Turner is a human being herself, just as we all are. Tina Turner is a stage persona. In addition, she is presented as rather a concept of strength and endurance and the fact that it is indeed possible to achieve anything and create "simply the best" out of even the cruelest circumstances in life.

As a little girl, Katherine Carlson's unwavering admiration for Tina Turner sets the foundation for her unwavering belief in the Magic of the Universe as an adult, taking her on a magical adventure through the synchronous fabric of time and space, weaving her amongst a cast of real-life characters who help her to not only discover more about her childhood idol, but also more about herself. Katherine opens her heart to share her magical journey with us, encouraging us to believe in the Magic of the Universe...but most of all, she inspires us to believe in ourselves, to simply be ourselves, whatever and whoever that is, which is the most wondrous gift of all! I highly recommend this book, as not only is it an "easy read," it is an easy way to plug into what is really important in Life, inside and out!

That is what I took from reading this book. It was given to me as a gift from someone who knew what a big Tina Turner fan I am. It is not about Tina's life but I think it offers something much more important. The author Katherine Carlson writes a wonderful tale that will make anyone who reads this a better person than they were before! It surely affected me and my life!
