5.0 out of 5 stars "Khan at his Best", November 29, 2011

This review is from: Arrows (Audio CD)
Being one of his finest recordings ever,I am disappointed that this album or CD is currently unavailable. My three favorite Steve Khan recordings Tightrope 77, The Blue Man 78, and Arrows 79. All three of these albums seem to go together. During this fusion era of the 70's Khan had such a incredible sound on his guitar that made him stand alone amongst the New York cats and pretty much every one else. On all three of these albums he has the amazing Steve Gadd on drums. Also Don Grolnick on keyboards, Will Lee on Bass and both Dave Sanborn and Michael Brecker on saxophones. Being that these great musicians played together on all three albums they seem to play as one. It seems to me that during this time frame Khan had a wonderful rawness to his playing that he seemed to lose in later years. I think Arrows is my favorite of the three because of the way Khan goes from funk to space with such fluidity. I never get tired of listening to any of these three albums that has the incredible artwork of Jean-Michel Folon on the covers. If you can get your hands on any one of these recordings, you won't be sorry.
