Editorial Reviews

This book attempts to build up sufficient perspective on category theory without demanding more of the reader than a basic knowledge of sets and matrix theory.

This is my favourite introductory book on category theory sadly now out of print. It requires only a modest level of mathematical knowledge from the reader. Of course given its vintage it covers none of the current applications of category theory to computer science. If only the authors could make it available online.

Format: Hardcover
This book gives a very gentle introduction to category theory. It was recommended at Bristol University for a third year undergraduate course and I'm glad I bought it. It starts with an easy transition to defining surjective and injective functions without the more time-consuming method of using set elements and seems very natural. It continues with very clear descriptions throughout.
