Aaron Arrowsmith 1750-1823, was an English cartographer and geographer. He founded the map-making and publishing business later carried on by his sons and nephew, John Arrowsmith. John Arrowsmith's London Atlas was famous. He was one of the founders of the Royal Geographic Society. The Arrowsmith maps were among the best of that period. The map you will receive was actually engraved and painted in the 19th century. Each is slightly different as the colors were applied by hand. When the few maps we have in our collection are gone, we will be unable to offer any more. As these are authentic antiques, expect slight flaws and age spots. These are the patina of time and add to the character of each piece. If you are looking for an unusual piece of art, to decorate a home or office, these truly limited-edition prints are perfect. Antique maps are extraordinary examples of the 19th Century printing and engraving arts. As conversation pieces they are unequaled. Each beautiful old map is an actual snapshot of our history. Any of these, increasingly rare, works of art are also some of the most thoughtful (and personal) gifts you can give. Unlike so many other gifts, antique maps and prints allow you to present someone a piece of their past.
