Book Description

June 4, 2012
Ars Golgothica, the literary foray by Rodney Wilder, collects the prolific poet’s best work to date in a book at once both inspiring and unflinchingly convicting. Hinged by the crucifix, this collection explores the foreshadowing and legacy of the cross, turning the Poe-tinted glasses of Wilder’s scintillating verse on Biblical incidents and contemporary issues alike. Substance abuse, injustice, love, faith and doubt. The poems contained in Ars Golgothica are captivating in their honesty, shirking denominational constraints for the Calvary-cresting source that is Christ. Wilder’s Gothicized poetry, as diverse in style as in its content, applies that heart to the world with a rapturous and irresistible passion.

About the Author

Rodney Wilder graduated from Portland State University, a BA in English in one hand and an ostentatious writing quill in the other. Having been born in the same month as Edgar Allan Poe, Lord Byron, and Peter Steele, his passion for writing has always come heavily tempered with a dark romanticism. Having also come to know the life-changing love of Jesus Christ, he has always written with Matthew 5:16 as his primary motivation. “Let your light shine among men, so they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Ars Golgothica, his first published collection of poetry, demonstrates the two’s convergence. When not elucubrating his wordy verse, he enjoys horror movies, gypsy punk, and spending time with his wife, Brittany, and their cats, Lulu and Zuko, in their home in Tigard, OR.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. These poems are beautiful, profound and convicting;they touched my heart with both joy and a restored goal of living my life for Christ. Its very evident that the author put his heart and soul into his work.Very well written.A must read if you appreciate poetry, and if youve never been a fan of poetry before, this book will probably change that opinion.GREAT BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars An exemplary collection October 7, 2012
By Aaron
As a fan of Mr. Wilder's poetry, it is fantastic and very helpful to finally have a collection of his poems in a book format, rather than remembering fondly scarce details of a distant poem shared on Facebook. His writings often surprise me with his fine crafting and arrangement, not to mention his mastery of the English language and usage of words that I had long-forgotten existed, not for their novelty but for their fine and exquisitely pinpointed meanings. His debut collection is a welcome friend amongst my (rather) large collection of books, residing next to his peers such as Poe.
