This review is from: Ars Magica, 1st Edition (Paperback)
There us no getting past that newer editions of Ars Magica is better. But this is the book that started it all, the Indie game that made it big. In this game one play characters in mythic Europe, that means Europe the way pepole at the time believed the world to be, the world is flat, there is one true God, magic is real and so on. Your main character is a mage in the Order of Hermes, your other characters are his or her servants and friends. Other characters you say, yes that is right, you play more then one in this game. Ars Magica work on the concept of troupe style play where each player have several characters and often control some NPC's to. Where it is the Coventant, the home of the group's mages and their servants that is the real character in the game.I would recomend getting your hands on this good old game book, and you will own a bit of gaming history.
