This review is from: Arsenal of Freedom - The Springfield Armory, 1890-1948: A Year-by-Year Account Drawn from Official Records (Paperback)
Not a narrative history, but rather a primary record source book made up of the annual reports made by Springfield Armory superintendents from 1890 to 1948, which detail all operations undertaken by the Armory for the July through June Federal Government fiscal year. The reports cover an eventful period in U.S. ordinance, from the advent of the Krag-Jorgensen rifle and smokeless power ammunition to the overhaul and storage of small arms following World War II. The record presented should be of great value to anyone keen on further researching the operations of this historic production facility and the weapons it produced. Except for some illustration plates, all text has been redone into clean, readable format. The printing and binding is first rate.
