Biography

The culmination of long time friends uniting out of a sheer necessity to create “The Sound” of a time in the past that echoes forever in our rattled minds. We lived it. The shape of this type of rage in the 21st century, is a true threat to a genre which is in a sorry state of affairs, albeit in the subterranean hollow of a true underground scene.

Our mission is the ... Read more in Amazon's Arson Anthem Store

Editorial Reviews

Arson Anthem, the band and the album, is a knuckle-scraping punch of aggression and hostility. This is Phil Anselmo's (ex-Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, Down) first record on his own label, Housecore Records. Arson Anthem also features Mike IX Williams (EyeHateGod, Outlaw Order), (Assjack, Superjoint Ritual) and Collin Yeo. The project was actually born and completed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when Williams moved in with Anselmo and they spent hours listening to Anselmo's collection of early hardcore bands. Their mission is to re-introduce the roots of painful amplification, raw production, and an attitude to a movement within a new generation that's lost the meaning of less complicated ventures. Phil Anselmo isn't even the vocalist for his latest project - he's the guitarist. He left the front man duties to Eyehategod's fresh-from-prison Mike Williams. 8 tracks. Housecore Records. 2008.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and furious March 4, 2008
By Akazima
Format:Audio CD
Ever wonder what a battle between TNT,C4,and nitro happening inside of an F-5 would be like?Wonder no more.

Arson Anthem's self-titled debut is a raw, unfettered hardcore assault, battering and pummeling its listeners with extreme prejudice.Phil Anselmo gives up the mic here, assuming sole guitar duties. His style, like the album itself, isn't exactly polished or pretty, but its visceral nature more than compensates for this-in fact,it fits perfectly here. The album's brevity(it clocks in at just over 11 minutes!)is curiously refreshing to me-just like the aforementioned twister, this albums arrives with a flurry, destroys everything in sight, then leaves with nary a chance to overstay its welcome.Bottom line:If you want a pure shot of hardcore fury that calls to mind the pure insanity of old-school Napalm Death(among other things)check this album out.Oh,and wear a helmet-your skull will thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Understand the music before your review it July 22, 2008
Format:Audio CD
Time and time again i come across reviews where people bash phil for expanding out and doing something that he likes. You have to undestand that phil was brought up listening to that old school raw punk. I bought this knowing it wasnt like pantera or down. Phil has done fantastically with everything! Black metal, Southern Metal, Punk, Sludge....its goes on! He is very good at capturing THAT mood for everything he puts out. This was his contribution to this style of music. Giving back what he recieved from his influences....Raw, Intense and beyond emotional. who is to say its not good!?!? grow up and evaluate the music before you knock it.(for fans of eyehategod, black flag, superjoint....im sure you will not be disgusted with this musical assault)

5.0 out of 5 stars My pick for best album of 2008 June 26, 2008
By Jon B
Format:Audio CD
There's a 1-star review below by someone who thought this was a metal album. It's not.

What it is, though, is a blistering and amazingly good hardcore album. It's quick, in and out in just a few minutes, but when it's over you'll find yourself going back through your old records to find more of this kind of stuff. The best comparison I could come up with is Discharge and coming from me, that's high praise.

This album came to my attention because Hank 3 is on it, but I almost skipped it because I've never heard anything with Phil Anselmo that I liked. Nothing against the guy - Pantera, Down and Superjoint just aren't my cup of tea. I'm glad I gave this a chance because it's absolutely the best CD I've bought in a very long time.

THEN DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM, THAT FAIR WARING FOR ALL YOU OUT THERE! This album just is straight up awful and this is coming from a guy who hardly ever says an album in this genre is bad. I can usually find some good in even the most weakest metal albums. Not this one however, trust there is nothing even remotely close to good or talented here. Maybe one of the worst outings by guys that actually have skill. These guys do have skill but you sure can't tell by listening to this , maybe the best ever but he is no guitarist that's for sure. This album consists of a couple of recycled Superjoint riffs and 7 songs that last around a minute each and go no where. Even if there is a lack of talent and bad musicanship a metal album can be pretty damn good BUT NOT THIS ONE. One word to describe this album NOISE.
