4.0 out of 5 stars The Bronzes of Ancient Iran, January 30, 2000

This review is from: The Art of Ancient Iran: Copper and Bronze (Hardcover)
Houshang Mahboubian has a magnificent collection of Ancient Iranian bronzes from Luristan, Marlik, Amlash and other cultural areas of ancient Iran. My personal reason for purchasing this book was to gain a good source for documenting my ancient bronze collection, concentrated in swords, daggers and axes, with a few maces, war bracelets and other oddities. Houshang's collection is well documented and will provide the collector or art historian with an abundance of information as to dating and the cultural origin of various artifacts. If you collect ancient weapons and would like to join a network of collectors with similar interests, give me an email at jpisc98357@aol.com. For other related books on Amazon, search the Holmes Expedition and Marlik. Marlik and Holmes both come in two volumes with the second volume being the plates. Out of print books by P.R.G. Moorey, Catalogue of the Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum and Oscar Muscarella's Bronze and Iron: Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I can supply additional titles to any serious collector or historian interested in ancient Iran.

I am a collector of ancient Persian Art and i found the book of The Mahboubian Family Collection an excellent reference book to help me with my collection, and i would like to congradulate Houshang on his vast collection. I strongly reccommend this book to any scholar and collector. I am extremly fascinated by the exact dating and reference to the location of the pieces, which was very helpful to update my knowledge on the Ancient Neareastern Art.
