Book Description

September 1, 2001
The textile works of Annemieke Mein display a rare standard of artistry. She has explored beyond the bounds of craft and developed new techniques in her use of textiles and fabric paints. The illustrations in this book show how textiles can be used as an exciting sculptural medium. The artist's three-dimensional creations are works of extraordinary skill, born out of a passionate commitment to the environment that she observes with a loving eye. Annemieke uses an amazing variety of materials - silk, wool, fur, cotton, synthetics - carefully chosen for their colour, texture, credibility and aesthetic appeal. These fabrics are then meticulously painted and stitched to faithfully reproduce her chosen subjects and to enhance the tactile quality unique to textiles. Numerous techniques are used in limitless combinations: hand and machine embroidery, dyeing, appliqué, trapunto, quilting, pleating, felting, beading, weaving and plying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles, July 18, 2000

This book is absolutely breathtaking! The art alone is worth buying the book for. The ideas this lady generates with her views of nature will get your creative juices flowing so much that before you know it you'll be outside hunting down bugs and drawing them. My dogs get frustrated with me because instead of walking them as I used to I now stop every few feet to look at an insect or the odd-shaped leaf or grass, etc. I would recommend this book as THE greatest art/craft/fiberart book ever and this compliment isn't given lightly. I have many, many beautiful craft books but this one is the BEST!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonder For the Eyes, May 11, 2004

This is the most extrodinary book of Textile Art I've ever seen. You can look at it then look again and not see all of it. It has simplity and emmence detail at the same time. The photography has been well done. And to think this artist began her journey 30 years ago when this kind of fibre art was not even heard of. The colors she uses are peaceful and earthy. A joy to look at. I have read it many times yet still I am thrilled and inspired when I read it again. A must for any fibre artist's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles, September 26, 2005
This review is from: The Art of Annemieke Mein: Wildlife Artist in Textiles (Paperback)
I am a self-taught quilter and have taught machine quilting for over 7 years. I have read many books on the subject of quilting and have never seen such beauty come from fabric, thread, and machine. There is so much more that I personally wish to accomplish and this book has the ability to take me to a new level of inspiration. Even if you are not a fiber artist this is a book worth having in your collection.
