Bob Peak was one of my heroes when I first entered the business of advertising. He was an inspiration to me. I had the opportunity to meet him and get his suggestions on a project years ago and it was one of the highlights of my career. An incredible talent, and at that time probably the top illustrator of his generation. This book is the definitive collection of his work. Nothing was a spared. Recently I traveled to Los Angeles and went through an exhibit of some of his greatest movie posters at the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences. I saw West Side Story, Apocalypse Now, Camelot, Superman, Star Trek and My Fair Lady, and many others. Most were huge illustrations, with incredible detail. It was fun to actually see up close how he did his work. He was an original. If you are a fan of Peak, you will not be disappointed with this book.

This is the book I've been waiting for nearly 40 years! Bob Peak was my idol when I was and art student and he is undeservedly forgotten since his far too early death. Especially inexplicable because his style and his approach both were so influential for a generation of illustrators and it is felt still, notably in his completely revolutionizing the approach to movie posters.

His son has put together a sumptuous banquet of his father's work, comprehensive, beautifully faithful reproductions with a thoughtful analysis. Not simply another coffee table book of art but a long overdue retrospective that collects the breadth of a dazzling artist's work.

Available from third-party sellers -- in this case, from the publisher himself, Bob Peak's son Tom -- the book is shipped in a carton with buffered edges that insures the corners won't be damaged. Designing a special carton to contain this 8 pound artbook is a necessity: the weight of the book demands it.

The only way to get a sense of how gorgeous, how lush, how beautiful this book is -- not to mention its thoroughness -- is to leaf through the book itself, which is oversized -- 11 inches x 12.5 inches. Printed on beautiful interior paper stock that insures maximum fidelity, the book itself is sturdily bound with sewn signatures to insure it'll last a lifetime--yours and whomever is lucky enough to inherit it.

Much has been written, and much more will be written, about Bob Peak's consummate skills as an artist. This book is a proper, loving showcase of Bob's prolific output, as the table of contents attests. Arranged thematically by the kind of art produced (i.e., advertising, editorial, fashion, et al.), the book is a private gallery that is simply exhaustive in its coverage. The majority of the book is rightly given to reproduction of art, as large as possible, and the buttressing texts are upfront, intros to each section, to provide context.

Tom Peak has given us his father's work in a fitting showcase. The book is a long, loving look at an American Master, and if I may be so bold (since I never had the privilege of knowing the late Bob Peak), I think he would have thumbed through this retrospective and said, "Son, you did good."

What can you say about Bob Peak that hasn't already been said. Like countless others, I was an Art School student in the now popular "Mad Men" era. I enthusiastically moved through and out of Art School with Bob Peak and his brand of genius lighting the way. Even as I began my career as a working illustrator, Bob Peak continued to inspire and amaze me, (along with others in our business). My clip file on Bob's work would choke a horse. I have long looked forward to a definitive book on his life's work and was overjoyed to see this published - it was long overdue. Kudos to Thomas Peak! I would highly recommend the book to professionals, students, or simply those that want to soak in Bob's amazing genius.....!!!

Truly the Creme de la Creme of Illustrators. His technique(s) speak for themselves.
The book is very comprehensive and thorough. I would rate Peak over Fuchs and English though all three were amazing illustrators. I am an Industrial Designer and know how to draw very well to develop product, packaging, brand identity, automotive concept, corporate identity, etc. On a scale of 1 - 10 I am a 7.
Bob Peak is off the scale. I only wish I could have been in his studio and watched this man work. Amazing!
