Book Description

0131955411 978-0131955417 February 5, 2006 3rd

This book, an introduction to the history of art that features excellent scholarship, takes a global approach with an emphasis on the Western tradition in art. It reflects new interests and issues, expanding the topic to include women and minorities, and showing media and techniques other than painting, sculpture, and architecture. Written in clear, standard English without art historical or aesthetic jargon, Art: A Brief History is visually appealing as well as intellectually stimulating. This comprehensive survey of world art is based on the most recent scholarship, and includes coverage of arts inspired by all the major religions, the contribution of women and minorities, and contains discussions of all the arts, including ceramics, glass, metal, enamel, and the fiber arts. This book serves as an introduction to the history of art and a ready reference for people working in the arts, including museum docents, and art gallery employees, owners, and managers.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Art History Lover, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Art: A Brief History (3rd Edition) (Paperback)
First off, I have to send out a compliment to the seller once again. She was quick and fantastic!
I have hundreds of books. This one is a keeper. I appreciate how well-written this book is. It gives a brief history of art from the beginning of time. I had taken an Art History class, way back in 1974. It was nothing like the class I took this summer, fast, informative and furious. With the help of my professor and this excellent text, I was able to do extremely well in the class.
I would recommend this text to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Art: A Brief History (3rd Edition), June 4, 2011

Excellent book, carefully prepared and edited, nice glossery and references cited. Generously loaded with prints, sidebars, diagrams and websites for further information noted. Highly recommend it not only as a college text for Art History but also for art lovers in general, very easily read and understood by average lay person. Adequately covers information so if a later edition is required by an instructor there is little to no gap in instructional material, a real savings for needy students trying to save a few dollars.
