Editorial Reviews

Book Description

How art heals is a mystery as old as civilization itself. To the first shamans, no remedy was more important than the medicine of the imagination. For the past 30 years artist and art therapist Shaun McNiff has worked in this same tradition, seeking ways to engage the healing energy that exists within art, and building a case for a new "therapy of the imagination" that today is practiced worldwide. Now you can learn to access this natural medicine - and explore your own soul's capacity for self-healing

3.0 out of 5 stars better writer than speaker, November 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Art Can Heal Your Life (Audio Cassette)
This is in answer to the Denver reader. I have not reviewed Shaun's audiotape, however I have heard him speak on several
occasions. I have to admit that I also was very disappointed
in what he had to say about art therapy and about his work.
There are other art therapists in the field who are much
better speakers. If you are looking for depth, my best
suggestion is to crack open one of his books (he is an eloquent writer -ie. Art as Medicine) If you are looking for an overview w/o reading,my suggestion to you is to go to a national conferance (check out American Art Therapy Association website) or to a lecture at Naropa in Boulder, CO.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much substance here, September 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Art Can Heal Your Life (Audio Cassette)
The speaker, while acclaimed to be an expert on art and healing, has not given the listener a tape with much substance, despite all his expertise. What comes through very clearly is the speaker's lack of involvement with people using the techniques he describes. There is little depth and authencity to what he puts forth for this reason and I was left wondering how or why to try the techniques he was proposing. He spends a lot of time talking about art and healing as if he were watching the parade and not really participating in it. Delivery of information was excellent, but it left me uninspired.
