FPG's first trading card set!!!, August 21, 2007
This review is from: The Art of Chris Achilleos: Heroes, Angels & Amazons (Paperback)
Back in 1992 or so FPG and Comic Images would start a fantastic trend that would last for about 3 years -- fantasy art trading cards. FPG started with this 90-card set and Comic Images relased 2 sets to begin with -- the first of the Boris Vallejo card sets and the first of the pinup sets featuring the artwork of Olivia de Berardinis.
This particular 90-card set features 89 full-color cards with sketch washes on the back and comments aobut the art or the book even the author of the book. Card 90 was the checklist. There were no real "chase" sets back then, so FPG did something cool but annoying: the first PARALLEL sets. Each of the 90 cards has 2 parallel cards -- 1 silver foil and 1 gold foil.
Cool artwork, neato binder with a card, 2 4-up promo cards, this set is impossible, almost, to "Complete" as the parallel foils are at E-Bay for about $250 each set. I'm sure the common sets are easily accessible -- in fact I know they are, but a "master" set would probably run about $450-$1000, depending on the seller.
This listing should include the common set, though -- a nice intro to Chris' artwork. There are two other Achilleos card sets: Chris Achilleos II and the Colossal cards.
