5.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Classic Quiltmaking
This is a beautiful quilt book, one of the best in recent years.

The book is an exceptional reference book, as it includes information on fabric selection and preparation, tools and equipment, fabric cutting, calculating yardage, the types of settings for quilt blocks and how to achieve them, and the basics of the primary piecing techniques used by modern quilters...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
This is a book that should be in every quilter's library, and for the beginning quilter is a dream come true. Every facet of quilting, even the controversial ones, to wash/not wash, etc., are addressed and the pros and cons are given. When you go to the store to buy your first 1/4 yard of fabric, rotary cutter and mat, this book should be in your bag when you leave.

This is a beautiful quilt book, one of the best in recent years.

The book is an exceptional reference book, as it includes information on fabric selection and preparation, tools and equipment, fabric cutting, calculating yardage, the types of settings for quilt blocks and how to achieve them, and the basics of the primary piecing techniques used by modern quilters. And, that is only the tip of the iceberg.

There is one caveat though, this is not a pattern book. While the book includes dozens of pictures of gorgeous quilts, the book does not come with detailed instructions on how to reproduce most of them. You have to figure it out for yourself.

Although the book can teach you how to draft blocks and calculate yardage for whatever size quilt you choose to make, making most of the quilts in this book might be more than most beginning quilters can handle.

Nonetheless, whether you're a beginner or have years of experience, if you're a quilter, this book is well worth the investment. Any quilter would be well served by reading the book from cover to cover.

I got this book as a surprise and I am so glad I did. I am a new quilter and everything I have wanted to look up has been in this book. It has so much useful information and is organized very well. This book would even be good for an advanced quilter because it contains the simplest to most complex techniques and instructions on how to do things. A must have for every quilters home library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners, July 13, 2002

I got this book about 6 months ago and have refered to it numerous times as I have learned my way through my first quilts. I find it particularly helpful that I am getting perspective from two quilters, who have different quilting preferences and methods. Well worth the purchase and I am sure that it will be part of my library until I am old and gray.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, June 6, 2000
I had the pleasure of seeing one of the very first copies of this book when I took a class with Sharyn Craig. Sharyn's methods are so easy to follow and understand that you cannot but succeed! The quilts in this are truly lovely and the instructions very clear, simple and easy to follow. A definite 'thumbs up'!

This review is from: The Art of Classic Quiltmaking (Hardcover)
I found this book in a used bookstore and I recognized the authors names, so I bought it..and am I glad I did!..I love this book!..I am constantly referring to it for invaluable techniques..I like the fact that they each has a different way of doing the techniques, because I have found that if Harriet's way doesn't work for me, then Sharon's usually does, and visa-versa..It is like having a quilt teacher right there with you...The directions are clear and concise.. An excellent, excellent book..Definately one of my all-time favorites

I loved this book from the very beginning but was entirely convinced it was a winner when my married daughter sat down to look at it. She has never done quilting and was excited by the book and loved it! She felt it was easy to understand and something she would buy. We both loved the style of the quilts and jumpstarted our imaginations.
