Beautiful,

If you think of the book as a photographic essay on exquisite glassware then you will be pleased with it. If you seek a book of recipes you may want to look elsewhere. Makes a great gift.

This book is all glossy pictures, and very little text. No history, and no in-depth instructions, apart from what to use and how much.

A very cool book with some exceptional photographs of different drinks. There's not much explanation on preparing the different drinks other than the obvious ingredients, plus there's only 100 drinks listed. What makes this book special are the photographs. If you're a bartender or just an enthusiast that wants to serve impressive looking cocktails, this book gives you a lot of ideas. As any good chef will tell you, "it's all in the presentation."It's too bad the book is softcover, plus it would've been nice if the photos were a little larger (they're about 7" x 5"). It's nice to keep around for guests to see, though. Makes you thirsty. There's a few sample photographs here on this site. Check em out to see what I mean. Hope my review helped!

nostalgic cocktail elegance,

Although this book contains the recipes, it is really a photo book of delightful compositions of Lalique, Waterford, and Saint Louis (etc.) glassware with the drinks within, perfectly prepared, glowing with color, and garnished with care. If you are a romantic or nostalgic, a lover of Art Deco, or an unrepentant lush, this book is for you. As a how-to book...not!

fun to do and fun to look at,

I just got this book, and really, I love it. Allright it only has 100 cocktails in it, but if you are planning on making more than a hundred different cocktails you can always buy another book, probably it wont be as nice to look in but hey, you wanted recepies right. Still I think it is a very nice book to have, because it's just nice to look in and it has the nececary instructions on makeing all those wonderfull cocktails yourself. And it also gives a nice picture of what the cocktail could look like, gets your tastebuds more ready than just plain text.

I hate mixes (prefer the real thing) and this book provides recipes for many drinks: from strong to sweet and everything in between.

The those who love the classic cocktails,
This review is from: The Art of the Cocktail: 100 Classic Cocktail Recipes (Paperback)
What I love about this book is that it focuses on the classic cocktails, the drinks that have lasted over time and fads and eras. It addresses the cocktail as not something you slug back while clubbing, but to be enjoyed with good company and conversation. The photos are exquisite, the recipes solid and the quotes and stories just add to it. A gift for yourself or a friend.

Great book with photos and recipes of cocktails. It's a bit outdated - but a great comprehensive list. It's not it any order though, so it's definitely built for browsing, not for making drinks (the appendix is only by drink name, some of which are very obscure).
All in all, a really cool book that gives homage to great cocktails.

I enjoy dipping into this book for the beautiful photography as much as the cocktail recipes. The antique glasses and nostalgic shots of a bygone era make it a memorable read. I just wish the book had been made with a sturdier cover - mine has already started disintegrating.
