5.0 out of 5 stars The "Must-Have" Community Reference Book, September 1, 2009
If you manage, lead, or participate in a community (volunteer group) of any kind then "The Art of Community" should be added to your list of reference titles. Jono Bacon, does a wonderful job at engaging the reader while teaching them "The Art of Community". Jono manages to paint the community canvas in a way community members can bring the master technique to their communities and practice the brush strokes of governance, conflict resolution, managing, leading and much more. The artful masterpieces known as successful and effective communities and leaders will be seen as more and more "artist" practice "The Art of Community."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide for Community Building, August 19, 2009
By David M. Basinger (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"The Art of Community" is a fantastic discussion on how to build a community. While Mr. Bacon mostly talk about how community works in the Open Source Ecosphere, the concepts he discusses can be applied to any organization or group who wants to build a community around their product or cause. Jono start by talking "belonging" and why people form communities and goes to building community governance and handling conflict with in a community.

While Jono will be offering "The Art of Community" for free under a Creative Common license, I strongly in encourage people to purchase a copy to support such as worthy piece of literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Open Source Tour de Force, September 1, 2009
By Daniel Lopez (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
"The Art of Community" is a tour de force, a brilliant start to the discussion on how to build thriving communities. The Open Source ecosystem has many concepts that can be applied to most practical business verticals and organizations. Jono defines the psychological and sociological imperatives why communities start and why people want to belong to communities.

Purchasing this book also supports Jono's continued work as a pioneer in this field, and the values of Open Source. Highly recommend!
