This book was excellent! This is the kind of parenting advice I have been looking for. The chapter on after the baby was born was especially helpful. I liked reading examples of how to speak to, carry, treat your child. I recommend this book to every parent!

Dr. Fine offers us, in updated form, citing the latest research and the cutting edge of science, a wisdom as old as the hills. Too bad the hills have been bulldozed a long time ago, to be replaced by a medicalized shopping center offering toxic products. He demonstrates that, in a true ecology of early childhood, beginning at conception if not before, every thing matters! and that we can indeed take back our lives as parents, and women especially can return to an ancient wisdom about pregnancy and childbirth, that we all know in our bones, is right. Readers will be informed and energized by the possibilities.

I was excited to find this book, and seeing how recently it was published, I had high hopes of finding a book I could recommend to my clients who are expecting or planning to conceive. While I appreciate the intentions of the authors, they completely lost me at page 105 with the mention of circumcision. What is the point of creating a warm and nurturing pre-conception, in-utero and birth environment for the child, if you are going to "ritually" mutilate him in a few weeks? I've done too much work with clients on clearing prenatal, birth and early childhood trauma to believe that circumcision, even with anaesthesia, is harmless to the child.
