Book Description

A Schiffer Book for Collectors June 1997
In 1934 Alcoa introduced a revolutionary new line of aluminum alloy giftware and domestic items designed by American pioneer industrial designer Lurelle Guild. Called Kensington Ware, these relatively expensive, slick, machine-age objects were in an unmistakenly Art Deco style with cast brass accents. They represent an important American contribution to modern design and decorative arts. The Kensington plant ceased production around 1970, and collectors have recently been scooping up these compelling objects in the antique and collectible markets. This is the first book to tell the Kensington story and identify, value, and illustrate the aluminum in 375 color, vintage, and black-and-white illustrations. It is a must for anyone interested in aluminum, Art Deco, and the machine-age in America.

4.0 out of 5 stars A full color guide to midcentury Kensington Aluminum, November 26, 1998
This review is from: Art Deco Aluminum: Kensington (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
Softback, color, 158 pp, includes introduction, catalogue, bibliography, price guide, and index. This is a wonderfully photographed overview of the Kensington line of Art Deco and Machine Age style aluminum designed by Lurelle Guild.

The collector is provided with basic background historical and biographical information on the Kensington line, Lurelle Guild, and Alcoa. The real strength of this book lies in the lavish photographs of many Kensington pieces.

The book is incomplete in that many items are not pictured. While more complete guides are rumored to be in preparation, this book it is still the first and only guide to Kensington and an indispensible source of information for the art deco, machine age, and aluminum community.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kensington ware, September 6, 2010

I love this book. I am originally from New Kensington, PA and my father worked for Alcoa and we have quite a bit of the Kensington ware that is shown in this book. I really loved finding out more about it. My dad would have enjoyed seeing this and reading it. My brother and I are having fun finding our "treasures" that our parents left us. Nice book, good pictures and very informative.

Nice source of information about the Kensington aluminum line of products. Pricing may be a bit off, depends upon region, I suppose, and whatever folks are willing to pay / charge for items.
